On this episode of The Fast Lane Truck, the fellas pit Andre’s old, trusty 2002 Chevrolet Silverado HD 2500 against a new GMC Sierra and a new Ram 2500 HD pickup in a three-way turbodiesel drag racing showdown.
The Duramax under the hood of Andre’s Silverado was rated at 300 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque from the factory, though he’s fitted the truck with a cold-air intake and a 3-inch exhaust system, unlocking a bit more performance, in theory. His truck also weighs some 800 pounds less than the modern GMC.
Of course, that’s all a bit insubstantial, as the fifth-gen Duramax under the hood of the Sierra is good for 910 lb-ft of torque – almost twice the amount that the ol’ Silvy makes. The Sierra’s Duramax has more grunt than the 6.7-liter Cummins sitting under the hood of the Ram 2500, as well, which makes about 370 horsepower and 800 lb-ft of torque.
You can probably guess the outcome, but the competition’s a bit closer than you might expect. Go ahead and click play to see for yourself.

Wow the 02 almost door to doored the Ram. Sad for the Ram. I think those Duratracs hurt the GMC vs. the 02 a bit though.
The old diesels bare highly sought afterasthey respond so well to modifications. The new truck it gets tougher to mod the engines with all the emissions.
So it was the hood scope
Old Chevys never die…..they just get faster….and smell like they died! Mine has 200k and still pushes 50lbs of oil pressure at 60mph.
