General Motors has underscored the importance of the circular economy in recent years, and it’s taken a new step to battle plastic litter. The automaker announced on Wednesday that it has joined NextWave, a group of companies that will tackle plastic litter problems in the world’s oceans.
It’s the first commercial-scale ocean-bound plastics supply chain that also includes Dell, Trek Bicycle, Interface, Van de Sant, Humanscale, Bureo and Herman Miller. The companies will collaborate to develop a model to reduce plastic pollution while ensuring the supply chain can meet demand in a more responsible way.
The group hopes to stop 3 million pounds of plastic from entering the oceans within five years. That’s the equivalent of 66 million water bottles floating atop the ocean.
GM has announced similar green projects in recent years. The automaker began recycling used tires for new vehicle parts and also takes plastic water bottles from facilities and makes engine insulation for the Chevrolet Equinox.

Why because I have the guts to say GM needs to focus on making cars and not worrying crap like this
Guts is boarding a plane as a young man to fight the Germans on the front line. Guts is strapping one’s a** to a rocket on a mission to land on the moon and better the human race. Guts is starting over as a minority in a new land with nothing but the clothes on your back. Guts is shoving diapers and a few belongings into a duffel bag, boarding a Greyhound in the middle of the night and leaving an abusive husband. Guts is a celebrity like Muhammad Ali putting his own self-interests aside to speak out against an unjust war. Guts is coming forward to speak out against an abuser, knowing you’ll be ridiculed. Guts is a little girl, bald from the ravages of cancer and chemotherapy, battling with everything she has.
Guts is not standing on the sidelines, awash in gluttony, looking the other way and ignoring the simplest of facts to aid an industry. Guts is not anything like you have described.
In this case is doesn’t even require them. All it requires is simply a bit of forward thinking. What you have to do is easy, just ask yourself two questions. Number one, what is your legacy?. And, number two, what are you going to do about it?
Anyone who thinks ali had guts for dodging the war is pathetic
