Feature Spotlight: The 2019 C7 Corvette ZR1 Makes 1,000 Pounds Of Downforce

Downforce is an ally at the track and the 2019 C7 Corvette ZR1 has a whole lot of it. In fact, the 2019 Corvette ZR1 will make up to 1,000 pounds of downforce with the optional ZTK performance package.

The ZTK package grants the massive two-way adjustable rear wing, which provides 60 percent more downforce than the C7 Corvette Z06’s Z07 package. That gives us a total of 1,000 pounds, as Corvette chief Tadge Juechter mentioned during an interview with GM Authority at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show.

It’s merely one of the many incredible feats the Corvette team managed during the ZR1’s development, which was never assured from the start of the C7 Corvette’s life. “We weren’t focused on the whole lifecycle. Just get the standard car and the Z06 out there, because we needed something to replace the C6. That was kind of our mindset through the development of the architecture,” he said.

Despite the C7’s rushed beginnings, the car has turned into a star over its lifecycle. And we’re simply glad the C7 ZR1 exists.

  1. The 2019 Chevrolet C7 Corvette ZR1 has a top speed of 212 miles-per-hour but you’ve got to wonder why didn’t Corvette chief Tadge Juechter push for a bit more power, 800-825 hp as this would push the top speed of the ZR1 to overtake the top speed of the 2017 Ford GT of 216 mph.

    1. The corvette will run circles around anything else in its price range with 750 to, leaving 800 and 850 on the table insures that the c8 zr1 will walk away from the c7 zr1!

  2. One has to wonder whether we’ll see the large rear wing be offered by General Motors to other Corvettes as an extra thousand pounds of downforce will keep the rear wheels planted on the ground; additionally, one has to think aftermarket companies will consider developing a similar rear wing for Chevrolet’s Camaro as you’ve got to think the Camaro ZL1 1LE would benefit going around the Nurburgring with an additional thousand pounds of downforce on the rear tires.
