Chevrolet did the truck community a solid by giving us our first look at the 2019 Silverado at its Centennial Truck Celebration at Texas Motor Speedway last weekend. However, the truck shown was the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado Trailboss and not more pedestrian types.
Even though we’ve only seen one model of the 1500 level truck, of which there will supposedly be eight – we like what we see in the pickup’s new embossed debossed tailgate. Rather than a big gold (or black) bowtie badge, Chevrolet dipped into the past and implemented a stamped and debossed “Chevrolet” lettering across the rear. We like that. It’s a thoughtful nod to the past, but it still looks modern and fresh.
We bring up the other models because we’re not sure if every Silverado variant will feature the look, and it raises a few points. Foremost, will buyers like the idea of no Chevy badge on the rear? Secondly, what other options could Chevy offer with this look? We’d bet it’s only a matter of time before someone outlines the “Chevrolet” lettering in white or black to amplify the throwback touch. Perhaps Chevrolet will offer a factory option as well.

To me, and only from pictures obviously, it looks a little awkward that the area is extruded out and then embossed. I would’ve liked to have seen the design more integrated with the new tail lights. It seems a little tacked on, but I will reserve judgement until I can see it in person.
Overall this design is quite a departure from GM’s more conservative iterations in the past, so I’m going in open minded. Can’t wait for the 13th!
Let’s face it they eliminate a part and the cost of a emblem.
To be honest I like the emblems as you can remove them for a shaved look. Nothing is much cleaner.
I haven’t seen this mentioned any where but notice the dual exhaust outlets?? I believe this is the first time a Chevy truck has had dual outlets,I like it!!
I really like the look myself, but hope they mix things up and offer a standard emblem back there too.
I would remove the “Silverado” badge as well as the trim level if it were mine. The way Chevrolet announces their trim levels is quite tacky, IMO. Who cares if it’s an LT or an LTZ? Does the average person know what those letters stand for or care? I would much rather the vehicle, its paint, accessories, etc., make the statement vs. letters which were seemingly chosen at random.
And the yeas have it, with that let it be dead.
My guess is that this will only appear on the trail boss.
Anything that makes applying wax easier I’m all for it, I love the monochromatic bumpers but wonder if the paint on the front bumper will chip easily ? This truck is giving me that expensive itch, maybe by the time it hits the showrooms I will be able to sock away some bucks, I’m guessing somewhere in the $45K range.
Then the dealer can offer different contrasting colored lettering decals to go in the deposing, to make it really stand out. Black on the red would be sharp.
I never cared for the badge in the middle of the tailgate. It was a ‘me too’ reaction to what Ford did with their tailgate emblem a couple years earlier on. I preferred the smaller bowtie and Silverado logo down at the corner of the tailgate on the previous models. I prefer it when Chevrolet leads, not follows. As for this new lettered tailgate, I love it. It’s a throwback to the old trucks that used to have this. Although, I feel it should be optional. It looks great on work horse trucks and off roaders like this.. I’m not sure I’d want my High Country Limited (or whatever Chevrolet’s Denali will be) with that tailgate though. I’d prefer it be clean and flat.
They’re going to need that lettering, cuz people would think it’s a Toyota or a Ford.
This embossed tailgate lettering should of been put on the 2018 centennial edition
If fugly and FUGLY had a baby, it still would be better looking than this monstrosity. Even the Aztek is better looking.
Love it. I took my ‘63 C10 to the Employee car show at the Tech Center back in 2008. There was a brand new designer that was very enthusiastic about the debossed lettering on the tailgate. He spent a lot of time taking pics and measuring it. I have to wonder if he influenced this current design.
