Community Question: Will The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado Include A Ford Raptor Rival?

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado will play host to a wide variety of variants in the near future. Chevrolet already confirmed the 2019 Silverado nameplate will offer “an expanded range of models, more engine/transmission combinations and more technology and convenience features.”

So, we’re here to ask in today’s Community Question: do you believe Chevrolet has a Ford Raptor rival cooking with the next-generation Silverado? We’ll start with the obvious; a high-performance off-road pickup is a no-brainer.

Sales of trucks and utility vehicles are through the roof and the Silverado could most certainly afford a lower volume, off-road truck. Chevrolet did show the 2019 Silverado Trailboss, which we’re sure builds on the famed Z71 package, but it’s hardly a Raptor rival. If Chevy does tackle the segment, we’re also curious if it will directly target the Raptor, which boasts a high-output twin-turbo V6 engine, or follow in the Colorado ZR2’s steps with a focus on rock crawling like the Hummers of yore. Your guess is as good as ours.

But, putting our marketing caps on, we’d expect something more in the light of the Raptor. The Colorado ZR2 already covers the rock crawlers, and its smaller footprint lends itself to the task. The full-size Silverado should absolutely tackle the higher-performance segment.

This isn’t Vegas, but right now, we’d bet one of the new Silverado models will absolutely take the shape of a hardcore off-roader. Vote in our poll and talk to us down below.

  1. I believe the “BAJA” should be added to the poll question to eliminate the minority who just assume the Raptor is a glorified Ford Lightning…

A high performance engine offering is far different than a Raptor/Baja rival…

  2. Use the ZL1 Drivetrain and go after that Ford Fusion engined Raptor LOL
All kidding aside, the new Raptor is an amazing vehicle and Chevy needs to answer this time around.
On a side note, GM please start utilizing paddle shifters in your vehicles. Well Cadillac does

  3. They should! The TrailBoss already looks off-road ready. So it should be a no-brainer for them to bring it. Literally, Chevy needs to have cajones and stop playing it safe!

  4. I think the trail boss is it personally. It looks mean, striking the aesthetic side of the raptor, it comes with a standard lift and off road tires. If it features the updated 6.2, than it will have the required power, as I guess the new standard 6.2 will make 450Hp matching the raptor and the trail boss might have a performance intake, exhaust making 460+hp. The next part, and the most important will be critical. The standard z71 package is similar to the raptors. Locking rear wheels, 2 speed transfer case and additional skid plates. Now will the trail boss feature the two jewels of the Colorado zr1, locking front and dvs shocks?

  5. I’m sure they will come out with a ZR2 model just like they did with the Colorado. They brought the TrailBoss model in the Colorado first and the year after brought the ZR2. So I’m sure that they will be bringing that to the table. TrailBoss is basically a lightly lifted truck with more aggressive tires what most people already do to their trucks down here just with a warranty. To me it’s a entry off-road model with a ZR2 being the more aggressive off-road model.

  6. I use to laugh at the guys who said 4wd need to be only straight axle. And now all of the 4wd packages are build around IFS!

  7. I have a Gen 2 Raptor. It’s my first Ford and I love it but if Chevy built a proper “Raptor Fighter” (not like the hideous Reaper) I would come back to Chevy.

  8. We are a life long Chevy family. We were “down on out luck” for a few yrs, had to literally settle for a Ford vehicle for a couple of years. One of the worst experiences of my vehicular career. My family a I all swore we’d never by another Ford. I am so happy that Chevy is going to finally build my of road truck.

  9. Uhhh.. it’s not any of these things that make the Raptor what it is. It’s the 13 inches of wheel travel suspension that’s from the factory that allows it to kick so much ass. So unless Chevy upgrades the suspension to a mid travel Baja style setup,. Raptors will still own. Yes even the 1st gens.

  10. Why do people need this from the factory? There are plenty of ways to build a 4×4 either doing the work by yourself (what a concept) or aftermarket shops that will build you anything you want and without voiding the warranty.
