Community Question: What Are Your First Impressions Of The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado?

Chevrolet pulled off a bit of a surprise reveal with the 2019 Silverado at the Texas Motor Speedway last Saturday. During the brand’s centennial truck celebration, a Chevy helicopter airdropped the all-new pickup for loyal fans and media to see.

After poring over the photos for a couple days, we’re here to ask: what are your first impressions of the 2019 Chevy Silverado?

So far, we rather like what we’re seeing. We definitely like how designers have managed to keep the traditional Chevy split grille while updating the design altogether. Though, we have heard the face looks a bit scrunched now. The side profile is a people pleaser with wonderful surfacing etched into the metal—and this design would not look good with beefy-square wheel arches.

Moving out to the rear of the truck, we also really like the embossed tailgate minus a Chevy bowtie. However, we don’t know if this is specific to the 2019 Silverado Trailboss or a lineup-wide trait. We’ll have to wait and see since Chevrolet has shared all they want for the time being.

We expect more information at the 2018 North American International Auto Show, which is just weeks away. For now, talk to us below on what you think of the 2019 Silverado.

  1. Simply love it. Way more modern than the last generation.

  2. I just hope that it is bigger then the current generation truck

    1. Bigger? Try a 3/4 or 1 ton. Most including myself think they are big enough if not too big. Park a 2nd gen Colorado next to a 67-72 C-10 and take a look at what a full size pick up used to be!

  3. I think it looks badass! Especially in the Trail Boss edition. It’s definitely more badass than the current generation which in some point its more like plain Jane. Now I don’t know how the other trims is gonna look like but i’m pretty sure it’s gonna look great as well. I also can’t wait how the Sierra is gonna look too!

  4. I like what we’ve seen so far a lot.

  5. The rear end is spot on great. Though the front remains to be seen in person, where the headlight and fender mate seem awkward in photos.

Hoping the 5.3 gets upped to 375+HP, 400lb-ft, and looses 500lbs in crew cab form. With 2mpg bump on city and Hwy.

  6. Historically, Chevrolet has approached new truck platforms with a very conservative stroke while the competition has been more bold. I think they finally realized that the bulk of the market isn’t conservative in what they want their truck to look like. Kudos to the boys at GM. The front fender treatment is much better executed than what Nissan attempted there. Really tough look.

  7. I love it! The front and the back are very impressive

  8. I like it, but it looks so much like the current F-150 from the side it’s unbelievable. Even my wife said that when I showed her.. I guess it might be an aluminum truck with a high-strength steel alloy bed.. we will see. I do like the Chevrolet tailgate, glad they brought it back. Other than that it’s a nice truck and it’s a lot diefferent then the current models so all those who complained about that finally get a new design and finally get those round wheel wells.

  9. Give me this truck with cloth heated seats. In blue or charcoal with a diesel. And I’m not sure there is much more I could ask for in a stock off the lot truck.

  10. If the Tahoe-esque sideburns bother you, start thinking centurion helmet instead of sideburns, then it looks cool.

  11. Overall the truck seems pretty nice in the real world pictures and video (GM’s pics not so much), but I’m anxious to see it with a chrome grille and bumper instead of the black, as well as in an extended cab. It’s certainly more athletic looking than in years past. (Let’s be honest, the last two generations never measured up.)

i don’t know that it’s going to pull any buyers away from Ford, but if they’ve upgraded the interior as much and keep the price down it definitely ought to pull a few away from Toyota and Dodge.

Where I think they might have a problem is the front bumper doesn’t wrap around the sides like most modern trucks. It looks to me like the sheetmetal ahead of the tires has been left unprotected. Also, I can do without the fender sweep. Still, it’s world better looking.

    1. I doubt it will come in extended cab as GM has moved to the Double Cab configuration for that segment.

  15. Looks good so far but will reserve final judgement in seeing a model with chrome in place of the ugly black look. Hopefully the 5.3 is upgraded in power and torque and MPG goes up by at least 2-3.

  16. Love it, hope to see it globally. But stil wait to see what’s under the hood?

  17. Hmm…First impression…That truck is ugly. But I will keep an open mind until I see it on the lot. Not fond of the way the fenders wrap around the grill. Tail lights are a bit strange. But that little stuff changes all the time. I have always been a fan of the square wheel arches. They have been Chevy’s identity for decades. But I guess if the others are eating their lunch, you might as well make them look all the same.
I guess I’m still in shock. Cuz I really had high hopes for the 19s. At this point, I hope what I read is true about them running the gen 3 and gen 4 together. Cuz I think I would rather have a gen 3 and just swap out that ugly ass hood.

  19. Absolute garbage. It’s hideous. Looks like 2018 (by far the best looking Silverado ever) will be my last one until they can design a truck that looks half decent. I am so disappointed. I don’t like the round fenders or that they dropped the mirrors down onto the door. The curve on the front fender looks completely out of place. Looks like a tundra mated with a 2016 f-150.

    1. I agree! I’m torn between getting an F350 Lariat or the 2500HD LTZ. I’m an extended cab long bed type of guy. I like Chevy’s interior better, but I like Ford’s exterior better. Since the exterior makes the first impression, I will most likely go with the Ford. I just don’t see it with the new 2500HD for 2019. I will wait to see it in person, but probably not gonna be the truck for me.

  20. Significant changes! Have to see complete model lineup to fairly assess. Good start, though!

    1. It’s a worthy effort but not a good one. What happened. It looks like a Ford and a Toyota Tundra had a Bastard child. I’m a die hard Chevy fan but come on GM, round wheel arches? Chevys trucks are known for there unique and squared of styling. Also may I ad does all chevy products have to imitate the Camaro front end styling. Apparently one doesn’t have to have a degree in technology and design to work in that department. I hope GM pulls or at least pump the brakes in future designs if it this is the direction it’s heading.

  21. I’ve been a die hard Chevrolet/GM supporter, proponent, and user my whole life.
    This is bad.
It completely appears as if the designers are getting lazy and copying much of the styling from other manufacturers in a way too obvious manner. Lots of F150 styling, even if it is adjusted or altered a bit. The odd front fender body line over the front wheel looks a lot like the Nissan Titan, just plain ugly, as it just doesn’t flow with anything else on the body. Also, the embossed tailgate looks plastic. I could keep going, but I obviously think it’s hideous.
GM performance has been outstanding in recent years, so I doubt there is any issue there, but lets hope that the GMC looks better.

  22. I just don’t understand it, for years all the other truck manufacturers strived to copy GM’s styling and features , this is like a complete about- face! Is GM trying to copy Ford, Nissan, and Toyota with this hodgepodge of ugliness? Very disappointed

  23. I’m die hard Chevy all the way and I am in the market for a new truck but Chevy sank their battleship. It is ugly , even uglier than the front ends of the 03 to 07’s. I guess I will be buying a used 16 to 18.

      1. you are totally incorrect sir, I’m probably one of Chevy’s biggest fans, I’ve owned every single model year since 1972, I currently have a 1977 GMC 4 X4, a 1985 Chevy Silverado short box 4X 4, and a 1997 Silverado 4 x 4 in my barn because the trade-in values were so brutal, and I just can’t bear to part with them because they are all in mint shape LOL I even tried my hand at selling Chevy and GMC trucks. I currently lease a 2015 Chevrolet High Country 1500, and it’s by far the best pickup Chevy has ever produced. This 2019 design seems like a bit of a sell-out, like I said earlier other truck companies were copying Chevrolet, but this rig looks like Chevy was copying the competition.

          1. I BRIEFLY owned a 2007 Nissan Titan back in 08 that I purchased from the USA only because it was a 10 month old truck, fully loaded with eight thousand miles on it for $25,000 Oh, I thought it was a good deal, I unloaded it 8 months later for an 09 Silverado, and swore I would never speak of that again! LOL

            1. Understood, we all have had to many beers and order something online that turns out to be a waste of money! Lol!

              1. Wow! were you spying on me or something? LOL that’s exactly how I ended up with that truck! It was a Friday or Saturday night and I bought it online after way too many Canadian beers! LOL I don’t know, call me a traditionalist, I’m a trucker and I have a 2007 Peterbilt that I will never part with, it just looks good! (Google it, thats what a rig should look like) And really isn’t that why we buy pickup trucks in the first place? Does anybody really notice if you have a power tailgate as you’re cruising down the freeway? hell the only reason I bought the High Country edition is because I love the saddle leather interior, I could have cared less about all the options it has that I never use. And I certainly didn’t buy it for great fuel economy either Although the fuel efficiency of my 6.2 L High Country is double of my Nissan Titan. I think pickup buyers buy trucks for their looks!

                1. Looks as though the ’19 designers had too many Canadian beers this time around.

                  2. Hard to say my friend LOL I don’t think Canadian beers could even be responsible for that! Tequila Maybe hahaha I actually feel bad for the designer of the truck, I’m sure he did the best he could. And I’m sure the higher-ups looked at the sales of the other manufacturers and thought hey we have to do something here. but like I said before they’re looking at it the wrong way, in my opinion GM’s have always set the trends, not followed them

      2. I have 4 chevys now (Corvette, equinox ltz, 1500 ltz and suburban 2500) I have had over 10 Chevy trucks ,25ish chevy cars so again die hard chevy all the way. I’m just saying I agree with a lot of people that it looks like Toyota and Ford had a mutated offspring. They redesign every 8 to 10 years so I can wait this out.

  24. Oh man, I hear you! My lease for my 2015 High Country is up in 2019, and thank God I have a buddy that works at a local dealership that is going to hold a 2018 for me for another four year lease. And hopefully by then all this ugliness will have passed! Haha I don’t know, maybe I’m crazy but Chevy and GMC always had such a beautiful line to them, that swoop down the front fender really screws that up

  25. I think it’s ulgy and would have to wait see if they do a different body style be fore buying another truck. It’s a shame dodge has a better looking truck for 2019 wake up chevy. You do a good run of style for awhile then you throw a ugly one in the mix to see if it will fly.

  26. That thing won’t even look good after a 12 pack!! And the auto stop feature to save fuel is a deal breaker for me!! Looks like I am keeping my 17 LTZ

  27. Seen one in person, really disappointed. It is one of the most ugliest things i’ve ever seen. Chevy had a great looking truck for the past few years but this looks like left over parts from a Nissan. Safe to say they won’t be one in my yard. And the price tag is getting outrageous. At this rate a new truck will be a hundred grand in ten years.

  28. I think they should stop trying to make it look like a ford, and go back to what a chevy is supposed to look like. The 2015 was a great updated chevy look.

  30. I’m just wanting to know what we’re the designers smoking. It’s ugly as hell. Chevy trucks are suppose to some what square body with square fenders. That’s a Chevy truck. I’ve got 85 Silverado and 03 Silverado that I really enjoy driving. My 03 has over 300,000 and steal rides better then father-in-laws new ford. I hope they realize they messed up and fix it. If not I guess I’ll just replace everything on my 03 and keep driving it.

  31. I tried to keep an open mind after seeing the first photographs of this new Silverado, but I was not impressed. After seeing it in person on the dealership lot, I am of the opinion that this is the ugliest full sized pickup on the market. I even told the salesperson that I really wanted to like the truck, but it wasn’t happening. I currently own a 2014 Silverado LTZ. I am due for an upgrade. What I can say is the LTZ that was on the lot looked extremely cheap for a 60K truck (cloth sets and basic painted alloy wheels were the most noticeable low-end features). I was raised as a Chevy truck guy and have had two Silverados as my daily drivers for the last 10 years. Unfortunately, I will be looking elsewhere for my next truck.

  34. I’ve been a Chevy man my entire life but seeing the 2019 makes the 2018 the last Chevy I will ever buy!! It looks like a cross between a Toyota and a Nissan Titan UGLY!!! I absolutely love the 14 to 18 body style and it looks like I am going to have to hoard as many as I can. WTF CHEVY???

    Reply
    1. You sound just like the people who said the 14-18 body style would never sale and that it looked terrible! Where are those people today?

They will happen years from now! The truck will sale like normal and people like yourself will have to eat your words. Just like those people that made comments about the previous truck well I guess if those people are willing to admit they were wrong!

      I think looks great!
