2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500: This Is It

Chevrolet blew the lid off its truck centennial celebration in Dallas, Texas by revealing the all-new, highly anticipated 2019 Silverado. Feast your eyes, everybody.

For now, Chevrolet is keeping the interior, powertrain, payload, and towing specs mum for the 2019 Silverado. However, what you see before you is a new entry to the nameplate lineup: the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado Trailboss (pictured). The 2019 Silverado Trailboss integrates the suspension system of the traditional Z71 package, but adds a two-inch lift kit on top of it, as well as more aggressive off-road tires. And get a load of the raised, bumper-integrated exhaust tips, as well as the retro-inspired embossed tailgate.

For those wondering what materials GM will utilize in the construction of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, here’s the skinny: a higher-grade steel alloy is used in the roll-formed floor of the truck bed. Meaning that it can likely still pass the infamous tool-box-drop test. However, Chevrolet does mention that the bed is “more functional,” and of “lighter weight.” We’re assuming that there’s aluminum in there, somewhere. Chevy also hints at “improved performance” and a reduction in total vehicle weight. So far, no mention on aluminum content, let alone carbon fiber.

The 2019 Silverado will have quite the broad lineup, consisting of eight new Silverado models – one of which is the aforementioned Trailboss.

We’re on site with Chevrolet, and we hope to share with you much more details to come shortly. We’re also anticipating more information as the 2018 North American International Auto Show creeps closer. For now, enjoy the surprise!

  1. Interesting….think its ugly looks to fordish on the front and toyota on rear

    1. Personally speaking, this is the first Silverado that really interests me in the history of Silverado. I’m not a truck guy, but I actually might go for this as my next vehicle.

      1. Alex, I am looking at getting the New Silverado but not liking what I’m see in these few pictures. Hopefully the NON Trail Boss will be better

      2. Well, you know your on the wrong track when someone who is ‘not a truck guy’ wants one.

        1. hey man if a vehicle looks badass enough in this case the Silverado, it shouldnt matter. I’m not a truck guy but shit I want one for sure in addition of the wrangler

        2. nothing new story of my life. But there is a difference in “wanting” one vs needing one

        3. So Chevy expanding the appeal and potential market base beyond the existing customer base is somehow a bad thing, in your worldview?

          Reply
          1. No not at all but at what cost??? If you lose your repeat customers to get a few new how does that help?

            Reply
            1. Who said that they will lose the existing customers?

              1. From what I have been seeing and hearing from Fellow Chevy Truck people

              2. Their customers. Will be losing this customer. Truck is ugly and not (as a truck guy) what I’m looking for. I like the traditional like a rock truck. I think the current model is the best looking truck out there and I’m not looking forward to it being replaced by a truck that’s aimed at appeasing a “car” guy based on looks.

        4. Most F-150 people aren’t “truck guys”, so I’d have to say that’s a good thing to attract “non truck guys”.

    2. That could just be the trail boss appearance pkg. The current gen features multiple appearance pkg. The biggest crime here is that there are only 3 pictures. What about the LT, LTZ Z71 and high county??? I want to see those!

      1. These are the only pictures currently available. We will get more. Stay tuned.

        1. Update: more pictures straights from the reveal event added.

As it relates to the other variants such as the LT, LTZ, High Country, Z71, those were not unveiled at the event. Only the Z71 Trailboss was. We may have to wait a bit to get those.

Was their a Cheyenne model also in the cards ?
Can’t wait for the NAIAS , GM will have a lot to show . Haven’t missed this auto show for years .

  6. WOW that truck looks badass!!! Can’t wait to see the Sierra and the whole line-up of trucks!!! Better looking than the up coming RAM IMO.

  7. Really looks bad. Was thinking of getting a new one but not if it looks like that. Almost as bad as the ford looks.

  8. You guys complain they don’t change it enough now you complain they changed it too much.

Really ther is no real pleasing some folks.

My first quick glance was it was a photo of a Ford.

Now that I have taken time to really look at it I believe it holds promise. The first thing to do is give them time to show all the models and options. Then take the time to see it in person as photos seldom give the true feel of the design.

The bottom line here is this truck will sell in great numbers and make a boat load of money. They always do in spite of the negitive nanny’s.

Also keep in mind the GMC is coming too and it shares no sheet metal outside the cad shell with the Chevy. Like the Canyon and Colorado they so a good job appealing to two different groups.

The devil here also will be in the details. The coming news will be very interesting.

  9. Looks a little like the ZH2 up front, I like it. Has an aggressive menacing looking to it. Can’t wait for more details to come out and whish it could have been at the L A auto show. Maybe Anaheim!

  10. Mixed feeling here. I think it looks pretty bad a$$ from the rear doors back. I don’t care for the fender sweep or the headlights whatsoever though.

  11. Not a fan of those DRLs and I’m iffy on the taillights. They seem odd but I may warm up to them when seen in person. I like that Chevy is offering so many variants though. Cant wait to see the other trims and the Sierra!

  12. Right now half will hate and half will love it. Over time as history shows with most new designs 95% will love it.

Heck I hated the Terrain when it came ot but I now have on in the garage. A lot can happen once you take some time to see a design in person and absorb it.

    1. Agreed Scott. I didn’t like the 1st gen Acadia refresh, the new Yukon, Terrain, and XT5 when I first saw the images but after seeing them on the road love them all

    2. Bill Mitchell used to say that new designs needed to be a little shocking and controversial at first; otherwise the public will quickly tire of them. I’m paraphrasing his words obviously but in essence a design that is universally loved at first is one that is derived too much from the past and doesn’t reach enough.

Trucks are not typically products with great design reach but I’d say this one is about right and it looks to me to be a design that will be more appreciated in time and will endure.

  13. Holy crap! This thing looks better than I could have hoped for (at least from these few pictures). I love the agressive look and the stance is much better than the typical “GM Stance”. Granted, this truck has a factory “lift”, so I’m sure the run-of-the-mill trucks won’t look as agressive, but I really like this!

  14. I generally prefer the Sierra over Silverado for looks. The past few revamps have been as dull and boring as Ben Stein after Benadryl. This is really nice looking. Can’t wait to see the Sierra revamp.

    1. I agree! And love your sense of humour! “Ben Stein after Benadryl”….that’s funny!
Back to the new truck….it looks really promising! I just hope GM has put similar effort on the interior…which I expect they have, so i’m looking forward to interior photos.

  15. Looks like there might be something intergrated into the tailgate. Maybe a step!? Not really needed with the bumper steps (love them on my ’16 Sierra) awesome looking truck so far can’t wait for the GMC!

  16. I love the look of the new chevy trucks! I remember people saying the current truck would not sale and would be a failure! Where are those people now? The same place these guys who are bashing the new truck will be no where to be found!

The whole truck flows great from the front to the back

  17. This looks better than I thought from some of the spy photos. Nice to have the factory lift available. The interior size and powertrain options will be critical. I hope that is a fully redesigned and upgraded suspension this time! (More Travel, More capability.

  18. Now that you’ve added pictures and had time up close. What can you tell us or speculate on? Whats with the gap between the fender and the front bumper under the headlights. Sneak a magnet around the truck to see if bodypanels were aluminum? Able to see any mounts or rails or any other obvious bed innovation? How did cab dimensions seem? Able to see the interior?

  19. Wow!!! More than impressed. While I have been driving GMC Sierras for the past many years, if for some reason I don’t like the new GMC, GM still wins ’cause I’ll buy the Silverado. Nice Work! In any event, I am still waiting for my perfect truck – Crew cab or Extended Cab, Standard bed (not short), 4×4, Zl1/Z06 Engine making at least 600HP with gobs of torque along with the 10 speed tranny. Ford can have the Raptor but I want a REAL “sport” truck that also has some off-road capabilities for when it snows or when we are at deer camp, etc.

  21. It is going to be very interesting to see how similar or dissimilar the 2019 Ram is going to be with the Silverado. Always curious how different design teams approach the same problem.

  22. Nice. Has a little bit of attitude. I like it. Anyone else notice the two different sets of mirrors in the reveal photos vs the gm provided three. Lights on the live reveal. No lights in the three gm provided. I really like the black grille with the red. Z71 badge placement actually doesn’t look that bad. I like what I see so far.

  23. What I’m not understanding is that how come they still haven’t replaced LTZ with Premier? If the rest of the lineup is already replacing LTZ to Premier then shouldn’t Silverado do the same?

  24. Optimus – A supercharged 600HP 4×4 in the snow sounds fun and little squirrely! It’s been a long time since living at 7,000 feet and was able to play in the white stuff. With a little less HP of coarse (bikes, quads, trucks). After moving down to sea level I don’t see the snow in person much. I like this truck, I’m in!

Should go visit my sister more often!

  25. Will it still have the highway shakes?
Will the rear shocks last longer than 30,000 highway miles?
Will the CV boots last longer than one year?
Will the transfer case output seals last longer than six months?

  26. I think the truck looks pretty good except for that curvy crease on the front fenders. I also think the front lights and corner of the front fender do not flow very well- way too busy looking. I like the back of the truck except for the tail lights.

  27. The crease is important helps the front end of the truck!

  30. Will the 2500HD look like this as well? If so, when is it likely to show face.

    1. Typically they follow a year later

  31. Looks like it continues the design trends of a) ever-increasing rear passenger space at the cost of bed space (are 3-row trucks far behind?), b) ever-rising hood height at the cost of driver visibility, and c) ever-growing front grille (the symbol of truck dominance).

  32. This is most likely too early for Mike Simcoe influence. Nice but can’t wait to see what Simcoe can come up with.

  33. There’s rarely a time when a new model pleases all customers. My first truck was a 1986 Chevy 4×4 and my second is a 2005 duramax. This 2019 model i think looks good. Ram and Ford have had the same body for the last decade, a few tweeks here and there for the newer models but nothing that was really a “wow” factor.

    1. The RAM still looks the best of the bunch, Tundra next.

      1. You are completely full of it! A test should be given to people before they are allowed to buy cars and trucks and they pass they get to buy one! If not they have to walk!

I take it this guy would have failed that test

        Reply
        1. There is a test, it is the test for a driver’s licence. I’ve had mine since 1979, licensed to drive anything allowed on the road. Where I live, if you don’t have a driver’s licence, you cannot purchase or register a vehicle. Currently on my 9th owned vehicle, ’13 Silverado, in no hurry to trade it in though.
