Watch A Monstrous L88-Powered C3 Corvette Racer At The Track: Video

Corvettes always sound like Corvettes. It’s easy to pick out their distinct burble, even compared to a Camaro, which shares the same LT small-block V8 engines. The L88 big block? It’s something entirely different.

And it’s the star of the show in this video featuring Jules Gounon, an international racing driver, lapping the Classic 24 Daytona in an L88-powered C3 Corvette. When the engine made its debut, Chevrolet claimed the engine made 430 horsepower, though it was likely greater than that.

Just listen to the raucous noises it makes under acceleration as Gounon gets on the power after every corner. It’s mesmerizingly loud and amazing at the same time. As are Gounon’s skills. He avoids disaster in the first turn with quick action and keeps the car under control. It was enough to qualify second place and he went on to win the event altogether.

Without further ado, press play and take in the sweet big-block V8 noises.
