SAIC-GM-Wuling Updates Baojun 730 With New Powertrain And Chassis Improvements

Earlier today, Buick China showed the updated 2019 Envision crossover, but another GM joint-venture brand has something to share, too. SAIC-GM-Wuling announced the updated Baojun 730 multi-purpose vehicle with a new powertrain and additional improvements.

The biggest change is the addition of a new 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The engine makes 147 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque and Baojun said the new transmission improves shift qualities and improves fuel economy “significantly,” though it did not give updated fuel economy numbers.

The 730 is also the first MPV at its price point to feature a multi-link rear suspension. Baojun added the car endured over 6,000 miles of testing to develop the suspension.

Elsewhere, the MPV soldiers on with a popular 2+2+3 seating layout and maximum cargo capacity. The new 730 is on sale now with an RMB 99,800 ($15,125 USD) starting price.
