General Motors Company reported 252,813 new vehicle deliveries for October 2017 in the U.S. market, a 2.2 percent decreased compared to October 2016. Sales only increased at GMC, while decreased at Chevrolet, Cadillac and Buick – reflecting lower passenger cars deliveries and one fewer selling day year over year. Selling-day adjusted, sales were up 2 percent.
“We are heading into the fourth quarter with good momentum, thanks to a strong U.S. economy and very strong pickup and crossover sales. In fact, Chevrolet and GMC have some of the fastest-turning crossovers in the industry,” said Kurt McNeil, U.S. vice president of Sales Operations. “The all-new Chevrolet Equinox is off to a great start and we could have sold even more if we had more available. We also see tremendous upside with the launches of the 2018 GMC Terrain, Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave. They are arriving in showrooms at the same time consumer confidence is at its highest level since 2000. Small business optimism has also stayed very high since last fall, and that bodes well for pickup and van sales.”
GM continues to focus on crossovers, a segment that is growing in volume and also carries higher margins. By the end of 2017, GM will offer customers the U.S. industry’s newest and broadest lineup of crossovers, including the 2018 Chevy Equinox, 2018 GMC Terrain, 2018 Chevrolet Traverse, and 2018 Buick Enclave along with the Buick Regal TourX ruggedized wagon. An all-new Cadillac XT4 compact crossover will launch in 2018 to grow Cadillac’s crossover lineup. And though not officially confirmed, GM is also expected to introduce a new Chevrolet Blazer as a midsize crossover next year.

Wow, the cruze is getting destroyed by the civic in the market rnow.
A number of imports are discounring the hell out of their small cars to cover up laging sales else where. The Elantra, Sentra & Impreza being a few examples
GM, and the rest of Detroit, are having trouble moving cars…period! Toyota and Lexus still sell sedans but that can’t be said for Chevrolet, Cadillac and Buick. The same is true of Honda who has been branding Civic and Accord for 30 years.
GM is a truck and SUV company that sells a few Malibus.
Well, that was fun. Now, let’s step back into reality.
GM? The rest of Detroit? How about EVERYONE? Everyone is having trouble moving cars with the exception of two specific brands (Toyota and Honda).
Lexus still sells sedans… but sales are rapidly declining. In fact, it will discontinue the GS after this generation runs out.
You need to look at the big picture here: GM has hurt itself greatly in the 90s and early 2000s with sub-par product in the sedan segments… and it is now recovering from this with new product. But the recovery won’t be over night.
GM is a full-line automaker… and its opportunity lies in increasing sales in segments in which it is currently weak (due to prior self-inflicted damage) is something that the other guys (Honda or Toyota) don’t have… as they are capped out and have little opportunity for growth.
Equinox and Silverado are killing it. I knew SUV/CUV sales were up, but I didn’t think they would be this large. Also, I would just like to point out that the XTS is the second best selling Caddy model, once again with little to no advertising.
The XTS had some hefty offers in October, including a $4,000 loyalty bonus – which helps significantly in lease pull-aheads.
http://gmauthority.com/blog/gm/general-motors-incentives/cadillac-incentives/cadillac-xts-incentives/2017-cadillac-xts-incentives/2017-cadillac-xts-incentives-for-october-2017/
Also, the XTS is the Cadillac model sold most to fleets due to the upfit/professional livery program.
Possible troubling sign is full sized SUVs being down across the board YTD and month. This in spite of hot suv/cuv market! Total Escalades down, Suburban and Tahoe down along with both Yukons. Will also be increased competition from Ford’s updated twins!
Not good, since probably most profitable models sold.
Really need some dramatic updates including IRS, and 8-10 speeds across all lines and engines.
It is embarrassing that one of GMs most reliable vehicle lines is now the most unreliable vehicle you can buy. Add to that a stratospherically high price of entry for even the lowest trim and these results are predictable. Many would logically pick a Traverse over a Tahoe or Suburban on size/fuel economy ratio. Also, why is the 8 speed auto such a liability? Should the whole range just go straight to getting the 10 speed?
When you say Reliability are we talking about a few hard shifts and trouble getting my phone to work seemlessly with the infotainment system
or
something I will actually need to spend money on to get fixed?
Well you have to consider these are the old models and the new ones are about a year and a half out.
Budgets and engineering has the new trucks First and the SUV models next.
The dramatic updates are on the way with IRS and 10 speeds for all.
The truck are more profitable so they were started first to provide the cash flow to do the others.
Not a big deal and they will do fine.
Sorry it is a big deal. Just like GMs pickups, new ones are coming (cop out) to play catch up!
You really have no vision for the big picture?
You do understand programs have to be scheduled and spaced out due to cash flow and staffing.
No automaker can do it all at once. The strain of financial and staffing would collapse the company and kill the cash flow.
GM finished the mid size truck programm. They moved to the new full size while already working on the heavy truck lines. This money will pay for the SUV models and other projects from the Vette to the EV programs.
If making their two top profit generators not world class is not number 1 priority, new management is in order!
Mid-sized have been on market three plus years and side-tracking trucks for Vette that sells 35k in a good year is stupidity!
You prioritize and invest in products that generate profits!
Some mixed results (Equinox and Encore – WOW; big SUVs – worrisome), but I am impressed by the Bolt EV. The Model 3 was supposed to be out by now (I know…I didn’t believe that either) but the Bolt keeps growing. GM is going to sell close to 25k this year, which is nice.
Need to keep up the momentum by announcing the Buick version for the North American market at the Detroit Auto show, for release as a 2019 model. It’s good to have an “affordable” EV, but GM needs to get more of that premium/near-premium market.
Glad to see that the Impala sales are up nicely 2 months in a row.
The poor Impala gets absolutely no advertising yet still manages to sell fairly well in this market ‘ .
The XTS sales are again better than it’s big brother the CT6 and with the refreshening of the XTS this MY , sales will continue to grow from customers turning in their leases for the newer model .
Just saw a new commercial for the XT5 that was the best yet from Dare Greatly . Showing a wall with color choices and different trim materials for the interior that you could order for your own personal car . It had an upscale look to it .
Not one news wire or TV Bottlehead pick up GM China sales for October. Great news but no one knows.

This is a GM communications problem. They are so focused on getting hipsters to review their cars in Rolling Stone mag that they forgot how to do good-ol-fashioned PR.
