Despite Its Age, Chevrolet Impala Wins KBB ‘Best Buy’ Award

Maybe the Chevrolet Impala is simply that solid, or it’s a testament to the lagging full-size-car segment, but the brand’s offering took home a Kelley Blue Book “Best Buy” award.

In fact, the Chevrolet Impala has won the award four years in a row and KBB is still smitten with its value, packaging and overall driving characteristics. Every Impala comes with keyless entry and push-button start, there’s an eight-inch touchscreen and a handy rearview camera is standard. Judges found the ride to be neither too loose or too harsh, and the 3.6-liter V6 still offers plenty of grunt and decent fuel economy (28 mpg on the highway).

In the design department, there’s no denying the Impala continues to age gracefully, too. And over time, its value has held fairly strong. On a 10-point scale, the Impala earned a solid 9.

We’d love to see a few tweaks to bring the Impala up to date with regards to its design, but there’s no denying Chevy’s full-size remains a solid sedan.

  2. With more promotion and showing its awards the Impala could sell better.

  3. I have always thought this generation of the Impala was just right . The styling is unique in its segment , gets good fuel economy and has the latest techno-features most people want . And it begs the question as to why GM does no marketing support for it . I actually look for it when a national Chevy commercial is on TV to see if it is included in the line-up and it is always absent . Even locally I never see it at all .
Any other automotive company that had a model wining this award for four years in a row would for sure be advertising the fact . Especially in an enviroment where customers are buying more crossovers than sedans .
I know GM is looking to axe this car but I think it would be a mistake .

  4. My first new vehicle was a 1959 Impala two door hard top baby blue. Now we have a 2015 Dark Red Impala V-6 love it. If GM drops the Impala they will need a new customer to replace me. What GM needs to due is fix the P/R Dept

Impala midnight edition and I love it. All the features, the way it performs and the style. When people sees it can’t believe is a Chevy Impala.

  9. Chevy should drop their new 9-speed transmission in the Impala for an even smoother ride and a little improvement in fuel economy.

  10. Chevrolet could add a break and SS to the Impala

  11. I have a 2014 LTZ and a 1966 396 SS and love them both. The ’14 has been pretty stellar thru out the 4 years I’ve owned it (picked up in July ’13) I added Flowmasters which I actually had the dealer take off my ’11 Camaro RS trade. It added some grunt.. but not like what the car could be had they given it the LF3 from AWD XTS V-Sport. That being said.. the Chevy SS is now dead and with sedan sales all around low. Chevy/GM should consider merging the two cars on to OMEGA or ALPHA-L

  12. Owned, first car, used ’62 ‘vert, ’05, ’08, now ’91 Caprice wagon and ’15 LTZ, black w/desert int. We bought the ’08 new during GM’s hard times and traded the trouble free, good looking car on the ’15, mostly because of the Wow factor. I’ll have my ’91 ’till the end. Great vehicles.

  14. I had a 2014 and a 2015 Impala LTZ 2. I traded the 2014 on for a 2016. Now both 2015 and 2016 are top of line with forward crash avoidance and all the other options.
Can not beat these cars with any car in the price range.

  15. Yes another month of sales increase on a car that is approaching 5 years old and GM still refuses to update it or even keep it around or advertise it. Think how sales would be if they swapped in the 9 speed, increased mileage a little, advertised it alongside their other models and added some spice with an SS model with added grunt under the hood.
