Community Question: What GM Brand Will Receive The Teased Electric Crossover?

On Wednesday, General Motors CEO Mary Barra arrived at the Barclay Global Automotive Conference with plenty of news to share about the automaker’s future electric-car portfolio. In fact, the automaker seemed to slip in a teaser in the presentation slides.

The image, which we published yesterday, showed an unbranded all-electric crossover with razor-sharp headlights and a nearly inexistent front grille. So, now we bring it to you: what brand will receive the electric crossover?

Our first stab at a guess is a Chevrolet since the rear end looks pretty similar to the Bolt EV, but without additional photos, we can’t say that for sure. Some readers felt the front fascia design looks more in tune with Buick, however. It’s possible this unnamed crossover is a Buick since we know the brand will gain a Bolt EV derivative in the next 18 months.

Two brands were not naming are GMC and Cadillac. The crossover doesn’t seem to fit either brands’ current design motifs. Though, the vertical cuts in the front fascia do remind us of Cadillac. Everything else looks tad mainstream for GM’s premium brand.

  1. My guess would be Buick.

  2. Put the Bolt and the FNR-X Concept together, and you get this car. I say Chevy. The profile cuts and lines and the front fascia look very similar to the FNR-X.

  3. It has the Buick hood design and headlight signature but the rest of it screams Chevrolet. Hard to tell really…

  4. My guess is this will be sold under the Chevrolet marque. Although there will be a Buick version of the Chevrolet Bolt EV very soon, Buick isn’t known for electrification like Chevrolet is in the U.S. That’s the key here that should pretty much solve the mystery to this puzzle. This car will ride on the Chevrolet Bolt EV platform, it’ll be the long wheelbase version and it’ll be a compact CUV.

  5. Buick will be to expensive, chevy is too cheap in many areas. So either GMC or a new division that is far better that chevy and far less expensive then the OVER PRICED Buick.

  6. My guess would be Chevy. And Chevy needs a refreshed design. But what about this car’s dimensions? Looks similar to Bolt.

  7. It best be Chevrolet! GM needs to make sure the brand that’s paying the bills stays relevant!

  8. I say Buick because of the angled LED DRLs

  9. Chevy or GMC, if they were to put a chrome grill on it I could see it being a Buick or even Cadillac, the headlights do look a little too sleek for a single generation bump to be a Buick though. If it’s not an Avenir.

  10. I voted ” other ” because I think every GM division is going to get their own version on this platform .
Chevy first , Buick and GMC second and then Cadillac .
I see almost all elements of this car except GMC . A real lean to the FNX-R with the Buick DLR’s and the horizontal headlamps we will see in future Cadillacs .
