Sometimes, real life truly is stranger than fiction – like in the case of a Buick Century that was pulled over recently in Massachusetts.
Police in Hopkinton, MA pulled the Buick over when they noticed the custom license plate, which was made out of pizza box cardboard, with a plate number scrawled haphazardly using magic marker. (Yes, someone actually tried to get away with this.) The “creative operator,” as the Hopkinton PD referred to him/her, was charged with operating an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.
We find it rather incredible that someone out there honestly tried to pass this off as an actual license plate, and we wouldn’t be surprised to learn there’s something more to the story.
Or maybe we’re just in denial. After all, we’ve seen plenty of drivers do incredibly stupid things, like that one dumb-dumb who did donuts in the ocean with his Camaro.
What do you think of this “custom” pizza box license plate nonsense? Let us know in the comments section below.

had a neighbor that lived across the street that had no job but bought a brand new car. After a couple of weeks it had no plates and parked all the way in the back of the driveway. He proceeded to make a cardboard plate as well and went out robbing local banks. Once he got home he would pull the car all the way in the back of the driveway and remove the card board tag and take it in the house with him. Needless to say he did eventually get caught.
In California, you can put whatever you want in the tag area, literally anything. I’ve seen brand badges, flags, totally empty spaces, dealer signs that were obviously taken from new cars, cartoons. I’ve seen the same car go for years without a tag, driven every day. I lived in Virginia for 7 years, when I was there, somebody had a California plate on their car for the whole 7 years, driven every day in VA. How about Florida plates? It seems every state has 50% Floridian immigrants.
Most of them are probably rentals cars, they all seem to have Florida plates for some reason.
In 1977, in Costa Mesa, CA, on a quiet street, a Chevy van was parked seemingly permanently in front of our apartment. It had two different license plates in front and back. When I pointed this out to the cops in a passing patrol car, they weren’t too impressed. It seemed they had weightier matters to be concerned about. The following night, a flaming road flare was put on our window sill by someone. When my wife opened the curtain to see what happened, a home-made explosive device went off, shattered our window and sent glass shards into her face and into the room. Was there any connection between the old van and this incident is anyone’s guess.
They didn’t even make it look lagit !
LMAO
Never seen anything like this before .
Maybe too many beers and a couple of dubbies ( spelling ? ) after finishing the pizza made it seem like a good idea .
Someone go grab my kids Magic markers and we’ll make us a plate !!!!!!!
Is anyone here in a position to recommend Probes? Cheers xox
