This morning, we brought you news the 2019 C7 Corvette ZR1 will likely debut this Sunday in Dubai, UAE. The debut seems all but confirmed following yet another leak from Corvette Blogger, which published the first image of the new Corvette ZR1.
Finished in Sebring Orange Tintcoat, the 2019 C7 Corvette ZR1 will be featured on the cover of Car and Driver’s December issue, but the magazine’s cover leaked out ahead of time. Thanks, internet. Additional details are unavailable, but the cover proclaims the 2019 Corvette ZR1 makes 750 horsepower. For those keeping score, that’s an extra 100 hp over the C7 Corvette Z06.
What’s making that power is still a mystery, though. Most recently, a new photo showed the “LT5” designation stamped onto the sports car’s engine cover. Numerous other leaks have pointed to a new LT5 V8 engine as well. Whether it ushers in dual overhead cams remains to be seen. All we know is the Corvette ZR1 sounds seriously supercharged, judging by plenty of spy video of the past few months.
It has been confirmed that the engine powering the new ZR1 will be the new LT5 V8 that is essentially an upgraded variant of the LT4 V8 in the Corvette Z06, with a larger supercharger, larger throttle body, stronger crankshaft and a new fuel injection system.
We’ll continue to bring the latest on this breaking story as we hear more information. Expect the 2019 C7 Corvette ZR1‘s proper debut this coming Sunday, November 12, around 10 a.m. EST.

FUCK!!!! THIS MAKES ME HAPPY!!! Perfect send off for front engine rear drive Corvettes. & lets be real the engine will be a supercharged small block V8. it would be the only proper way to say good bye. Any new engine designs will debut with the new Mid Engine vette. but I WANT MORE SPECS!!
The amazing new Corvette ZR1 and Prez Trump just signed $253 BILLION in trade deals with China!!!
Life can get an f*cking better than that!!!!!!
MAGA!
F#CK
It’s got a shaker style hood. God bless America
I’ll probably take heat for this, but from that angle, I think the front clip looks cheap as hell. I’m sure it’s functional, it just looks like an after market piece. Maybe it’s just the angle.
Yes you should take more then just heat for that! The front nose looks outstanding and functional! GM puts their best foot fwd, fixing problems that was on the previous model and people still complain! I guess some people are never happy!
You do realise looks are subjective, yes? Your American is showing.
ma always said don’t judge a book by it’s cover but some books don’t have covers
I always hope my American shows up!
The Return Of The King. Everyone has a second mortgage these days sweetheart.
Not this “sweetheart”. The ZR1 looks awesome, but you don’t NEED to spend that kind of money to have fun driving.
If you take out a second mortgage for a car then you need your head read and deserve every financial problem which is in your future.
I think it was a joke no need to be so serious.
Jesus, canistel, shouldn’t you be on the CNN site.
When Chevrolet C7 Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter was on AutolineTV a couple of years ago, he said that a DOHC-4v engine would require more space than was available under the hood of the C7 and unless they did some structural changes to the C7, it shouldn’t be possible to squeeze a DOHC-4v engine in which makes you wonder whether the LT5 is a twin-turbo 6.2L V8 or simply a LT4 with a larger supercharger.
Then again.. Chevy could have thought totally out of the box with the LT5 being something totally new and will be the starting point for the C8 Corvette.
From corvette bloggers site I just read it not my info….
A quick recap of the specs listed in the Car and Driver article:
Starting price expected to be around $120k
7-speed manual and 8-speed automatic
1/2″ wider than Z06 front wheels
Mag Ride standard
Carbon Ceramic Brakes
750hp/680 lb-ft LT5 (6.2L, pushrod V8, Eaton supercharger)
Supercharger produces 52% more air per RPM than the Z06 blower, also 2.9″ taller.
Because of the hood height, car cannot be sold in Europe
Tadge claims the ZR1 can shoot flames out from its exhaust
NEW fuel delivery system- BOTH PORT INJECTION AND DIRECT INJECTION
sub 3 second 0-60, sub 11 second 1/4 mile, 210+ mph top speed
4 additional heat exchangers (comparing to Z06) in the nose
Curb weight 3664 lbs, 140 lbs over Z06
Several aero packages available, RPO “ZTK” as shown in the magazine. Wing has 10 degrees of adjustability, contributing to 500 lbs of downforce at speed.
Wing is attached behind the hatch and spreads the load to the bumper beam.
Smaller Wing is Standard
Removable top
2.5 seconds faster around VIR than Z06
An eight speed automatic how retro. 120 large I expect a 10 speed automatic.
Not sure why the downvote. Considering how much they talked about the 10-speed in the new Camaro, I’m surprised they put the 8 in there. And before people go off, we all know the majority will order an auto whether you like it or not.
I think its an 8 because less gears means less bearings and friction. Kinda like how the zl1-1le has only the 6 speed manual. I guess they found the 8 speed had enough less friction to merit it over the 10. That or weight. I thought the 10 speed was to be super lean and have less friction and weight that the 6 it was designed to replace. something about the gear designs.
Eric I really hope what you are saying isnt true. If it is. This is very dissapointing news. If this is just another pushrod v8 with a supercharger? Why even name the engine lt5? Its just a slightly modified lt4 with a bigger supercharger. A 3600 lb corvette?? I didn’t think we would ever see the day a corvette got that heavy. And why a big fixed wing in this day and age? That is such a dated way of thinking. Why not an active aero ring wing??
My question is.
How much faster can the corvette get? If zero to 60 in less than 3 seconds then how much faster will the c8 be in Zo6, ZR1 form?
Depends, is it RWD?
This is fantastic, ZR1, Hellcats, ZL1 and Demons. I hope this keeps on going for the foreseeable future and it’s not a last incredible gasp, before Teslas-only or what the great Bob Lutz predicts, comes to fruition.
I am sorry to burst your bubble, but quiet electric power will soon take over the roar of the obsolete gasoline engine. Hybrids are already commonplace and soon pure electrics will break all speed records. BTW, the fastest vehicles on the Moon and on Mars are all electrics! No fuel powered car can ever beat them!
Uhhmmm, rockets that land and take off the moon? It comes down to power/density/price. When we got 500years of fuel in America alone to fuel the world current consumption, its guaranteed that it will be utilized. Right now half of the price of fuel is taxes depending upon which state you live in. Li-ion batteries still do not compete with power density of gas or diesel. Fot that matter they only start becoming competitive with CNG. LI-ion are not the way of the future. The battery that replaces them might be competitive enough. It makes no sense at this moment. Teslas are faster drag cars because of 4wheel drive. GTR’s could wipe them multiple times over if they were given more than 600hp, and Bugatti is a highly unrefined vehicle (not unimpressive, but for 1500hp they should be a lot faster and you would think they could make them lighter. They dont have enough engineers with such a small volume project, doesn’t change the fact their dope Electricity is as of right now isn’t there.
On the moon GM has a 100% marketshare. All the cars are electric. The first electric car arrived on the moon 46 years ago. Still waiting for the infrastructure to recharge them. We may have the 100th anniversary of the small block Chevy before the infrastructure will exist on earth.
Oh yeah, how can I forget, CTS-V.
Cant wait for new ctsv! hope it sticks around as well!

Nice find!!! Thanks for sharing
the new comaro looks really sub-par. a new low for ford. from the thunderbird to the sorrento, gm used to make a lot of good cars but today isn’t their day i guess
The only thing sub-par was the education you received. Spell check would do you some good.
“the new comaro looks really sub-par. a new low for ford. from the thunderbird to the sorrento, gm used to make a lot of good cars but today isn’t their day i guess”
Just what the phoque were you even trying to say?
the designers at gm are taking a day off so the workers designed it instead
Well, the LT5 ain’t a DOHC engine, but based on the 750/680 numbers it’s clearly going to spin faster than the 650/650 LT4…Unless the new, larger supercharger is giving up some efficiency on the low end in exchange for more efficiency on the top. Either way, at the reported 52% increase in volume, there will be a lot of excess capacity there to tune it with a pulley.
Why wouldn’t GM reveal the ZR1 in the states?
Exactly. Thank you.
I’m waiting.
Sean, you have to thank the “World Wide Web”, not the Internet which is only the hardware. The “WWW” is the software created to allow hypertext and net addressing to access web sites.
Not sure how we got here from the new ZR1, but I’ll weigh-in. They call petroleum-based oil/gas products fossil fuels for a reason. The reason is that they are formed from 100s of millions, perhaps billions of years of mineral, vegetable and animal deposits within the earth. There is no shortage of them, as we were told a few years ago. And if you believe that a little over a century of internal combustion engine power, has irreversibly damaged the ozone layer of a 4-billion-year old planet, I’ve got a beautiful bridge I’d like to sell you here in the big apple. This isn’t the ’70s anymore, you can put your face up to the tail pipes on this new ZR1 and take a breath without much worry-kinda. The worlds car makers including the big three, got the point and are making the most efficient and powerful gasoline engines ever. Electric has it’s place, but in my opinion, gas still has some miles and years left in it’s tank.
While there’s certainly a lot to love about the ZR1, I’m not really all that impressed by it! :/ It essentially is a more powerful Z06 with a slightly larger supercharger, slightly modded fuel-injection system, more aero bits, stronger crankshaft, and a higher price tag! All of which are good, but nothing revolutionary or groundbreaking…. I guess it’s understandable, as Tad stated in the article, “It’s the most we know how to do” with the ‘Vette in it’s current iteration!
Farewell front-engine, rear drive Corvette! Bring on the mid-engine goodness!!!
So what was the difference between a C6 Zo6/ZR1?
505hp/638hp for both engines
133hp difference
This is a similar pattern as previous models! Why complain about a car that is more powerful and faster?
Wow a 750hp Douchette for 70 yr olds to clog the left lane in…
One has to wonder if a C7 Corvette Z06 with a larger rear spoiler like the ZR1 would be capable of achieving better lap times because one of the biggest issues that everyone who had tested the C7 Corvette Z06 was that there wasn’t enough rear down force to keep the rear wheels planted on the ground.
Walter Rohrl, rally ace and general Porsche legend says modern supercars are getting too fast for the Nurburgring.
He goes on to say that the current production car record holder. The 911 GT2 produces up to 416kg of downforce, way more than most supercars. That’s 917.123 lbs.
The C7 ZR1 is said to produce about 950 lbs. of downforce, This is starting to sound interesting.
