Danny Popp and his 2003 C5 Corvette weren’t able to capture the win this year, but the 2017 Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational was still dominated by Chevrolets. In fact, seven out of the top ten racers drove a Chevrolet to their final positions.
Popp secured last year’s top spot and won four titles overall in years past, but this year, a Mitsubishi Evo came out to win it all. Popp fell to a respectable fifth place after the event concluded, which immediately follows the SEMA show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Chevrolets have taken the crown eight times in the past nine years, according to Super Chevy, which makes the 2017 competition results quite different. Third place saw the top finishing Chevrolet with Mike DuSold in his 1967 Camaro, fifth place to tenth is littered with Corvettes and Camaros.
Qualifying for next year’s competition will be announced soon and we’ll see if Popp can make a triumphant return.
