See How The V-12 LS Is Made From A One-Piece Block: Video

When we first came across this LS-based V-12, it was made from two LS1 V-8s that were shortened and grafted together. The beastly result utilized a custom camshaft and crankshaft, along with factory LS1 pistons and rods. This creation first came about several years ago, mind you, back in 2013. Since then the masterminds behind the build have been hard at work finding ways to improve the design.

Today, the LS V-12s are produced from a 1-piece block of iron or aluminum, as you’ll see in the video. This process allows for a much more rigid and durable structure, which is necessary if the team hopes to surpass the 1,000 horsepower mark.

After achieving this goal with a naturally aspirated setup, the crew will move on to a boosted application, because an 12-cylinder LS is pretty sweet, but a twin-turbocharged LS V-12 would be even sweeter, wouldn’t you say?

Go ahead and hit play for a sneak-peek at how these marvelous motors come to be. And if seeing the process makes it all too tempting, then a quick look at the price list should bring you back down to earth.

  1. Nice to see GM offer a couple of limited production Super cars using a 12 cylinder engine like a Cadillac luxury sedan and a mid engine Corvette. One can dream but I am sure the Germans build cars as cost of enhancing their image not as profit.
