Community Question: Should Camaro’s Hugger Orange Make A Comeback?

Yesterday, Chevrolet revealed the 2018 Camaro Hot Wheels edition to celebrate the toy car’s 50th anniversary. Along with the special badges and other various appointments, Chevrolet also decided to finish the special Camaro in an all-new color it calls “Crush.”

Chevy says the orangey Crush hue recalls Hot Wheels’ iconic orange race tracks, but it got us thinking: should Chevrolet bring back Hugger Orange for the Camaro? Hugger Orange was arguably one of the coolest colors ever to adorn the first-generation Camaro and we think it would finish quite well on the car five generations later.

There’s more method to the argument and it surrounds Dodge. Dodge has been incredibly successful with targeting an audience that clamors for retro traits and throwback appointments. Plum Crazy and Hemi Orange exist for a reason today. We previously detailed five ways to fix slumping sixth-generation Camaro sales, but re-introducing some iconic colors could court buyers back to Chevrolet. Hugger Orange seems like a no-brainer if Chevy does reach back into its archived color palette.

What do you think? Should Chevrolet embrace more of its Camaro heritage with throwback colors like Hugger Orange? Sound off in our poll and talk to us down below.

  1. Relax this will be a color in a year or so.

Like the first Hot Wheel the color is set for a Six month run this year on the special edition for marketing.

Then in a year or year and a half it will go production with Hugger Orange.

You have to remember GM is a little farther along in this thinking than we are.

  2. Yes, this color should be made available. When I was a kid I would drool over the Camaros painted Hugger orange with the white stripe on the hood. Now that I can afford a new Camaro I ordered one back in 2013. The color I chose was Inferno orange and white stripe on the hood and deck lid with the orange seats. I just love this car and I get compliments from young and old alike.

  3. Yes!

And start painting the blocks Chevy orange again! I know most are aluminum but they can still be painted!

  4. Why not reissue entire 1969 color choices for 1 or 2 model years? Would be interesting.

  5. Yes, and while you are doing things for nostalgic reasons…go ahead and throw in a back seat that someone can actually sit in just like the original 1967…and if you could bring out a trim level that looks just like a new firebird and trans am (with all of their heritage colors) without actually using the dead names of Pontiac, Firebird, or Trans Am, and make it without the huge markup of the aftermarket companies that transform Camaros into TAs charge. Oh….and while I’d love to see all of this…I probably won’t buy any of it unless I win the Lottery…but I promise if I win a big enough Lottery I’ll buy one of each color and trim level.

  6. Retro fit the Camaro front and rear end on the Corvette (you can’t use the Camaro back seat anyway) Release the midengine Corvette, not as a special model. And use the Camaro as a Firebird/Trans Am!

  7. Yes to Hugger Orange. I want the color to be available to Chevy Pickups. I want a Hugger Orange Chevy pickup. Love, love, love Hugger Orange.
