2018 Chevrolet Silverado Performance Concept Hauls In A Supercharged V8 Engine

The year 2018 is a big one for Chevrolet trucks and although the brand brought a customized 1967 C-10 to celebrate its centennial, we’d argue the 2018 Silverado Performance concept is an even greater star.

Why? Foremost, it makes over 450 horsepower, thanks to a concept supercharger engineered for the Silverado’s 5.3-liter V8 engine. Chevrolet says the system is based on the system found in the 6.2-liter LT4 supercharged V8 engine. Additional Chevrolet Performance parts include a performance exhaust system and a performance brake kit. It’s the Silverado SS we need.

The exterior design is pretty good, too. The hood and bumper feature air ducts for the supercharged engine and the truck is substantially lower than a production model. Chevrolet fitted custom wheels wrapped in 22-inch performance tires, and the grille and bumpers are finished in the truck’s body color. Final touches include smoked headlights and taillights and LCD competition-style dash logger inside the truck’s cabin.

Chevrolet didn’t mention any production possibilities, or if the concept supercharger might come to life, but we hope one—or both—come true.

  1. Given that the LT1 6.2L OHV-2v V8 makes 450 horsepower while naturally aspirated and has active cylinder deactivation which gives the LT1 V8 the best of both worlds, performance and fuel efficiency which means a supercharged 5.3L V8 is sort of redundant.

    1. Doesn’t matter what Chevy/GMC does with their trucks they will fall to third place behind Ram in the next 18 months. Sorry been a GM truck guy forever but we have to face the truth

    2. I agree that would be silly to spend the money to develop the engine. Add a supercharger and intercooler to increase the cost and the weight of the engine. Spend some more money to certify the emissions. That reminds me of the LF3 engine that Cadillac developed for the 2014 CTS V sport. Take a V-6 add twin turbos and intercooler. And you end up with an engine that weighs more then the LS3. Cost more to manufacture and makes less power.

    3. The 6.2 makes 420 stock, not 450. Still supercharging the 5.3 makes no sense.

  2. It’s time to put the LT4 in a 1/2 ton truck

  3. I get 420 HP from my 2014 with the 6.2L and Max tow package. I would expect more from this, given the upcharge for the forced air induction.

  4. Offer it as a single cab, offer the 5.3l sc, or an NA 6.2l and you’d have a sale in me.

  7. The question is why GM won’t put the 6.2 in a 1/2 ton truck? 2wd 2 door short box truck?

    Is it insurance?
    Is it warranty?
    Is it MPGS? Cafe!

    1. They want you to pay an extra $10,000-$15,000 for an engine that probably cost the same to build as the 5.3 L
