The 2017 C7 Corvette Grand Sport may be the much-needed bridge between Stingray and Z06, but it was lacking a few areas, according to judges at Motor Trend’s Best Driver’s Car.
However, not all was lost. The Corvette Grand Sport did clock a very respectable lap time at Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway, 1:35.62, to be exact. That time makes it quicker than an Acura NSX, Lexus LFA and a Ferrari 458 Italia. MT’s star driver, Randy Pobst, didn’t find the love with the car’s track mode, however.
Instead, he found the Corvette Grand Sport’s “Sport” mode to be the best compromise after turning all of the other electronic gizmos off. Unfortunately, no one other than a pro driver like Pobst would likely be able to handle the car without the electronics enabled. In “Track” mode, Pobst says the car was unforgiving and a real monster to try and tame. Sport mode, though, made the Corvette Grand Sport like a big labrador retriever. His words, not ours. After it all, the 2017 C7 Corvette Grand Sport could only muster seventh place in this year’s competition.
