The eleventh rendition of Car and Driver’s Lightning Lap has come and gone, and two Chevrolet Camaros did their thing around Virginia International Raceway. We previously discussed one of the darlings at this year’s Lightning Lap, the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, but the regular Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was no slouch either.
In fact, it outperformed every car in its price class except one: the Camaro ZL1 1LE. With a 2:50.1 lap time, the next closest competitor was just over three seconds off, that being the Nissan GT-R Track Edition. The GT-R was also one price class above the Camaro ZL1.
It’s another case of the Camaro nameplate gone from straight-line pony car to world-beating sports car. Though, as we’ve discussed in the past, it may not be a winning marketing strategy for the sixth-generation Camaro. But we digress.
