The 2018 C7 Corvette ZR1 Has Returned To The Nürburgring: Video

It’s been awhile, but our old friend has returned. Once again, new video has surfaced of the 2018 C7 Corvette ZR1 taking to the Nürburgring for development, and it’s still sporting the goofy, sound-muffling exhaust.

And, again, the C7 Corvette ZR1 goes flat out at the circuit, which makes for some wicked fly-by moments in the video. Even with the sound-muffling pipes, this is still a very, very loud Corvette.

So, let’s recap what we know and expect for the C7 Corvette ZR1. Foremost, it’s certainly supercharged. Plenty of video has revealed its whine. What the supercharger is bolted to remains a mystery, however. The most logical option would be an amplified version of the Corvette Z06’s 6.2-liter supercharged LT4 V8 engine. But, then we don’t know what to make of DOHC LT5 V8 option codes popping up that make references to the Corvette ZR1.

Additionally, it’s very likely that we’ll see some sort of active aerodynamics system appear with the C7 Corvette ZR1 after patent images revealed such a system.

When the Corvette ZR1 does show its face, it’s expected to be the final variant to top off the C7 Corvette’s family of sports cars. It may also be the final front-engine Corvette ahead of the industry’s worst-kept secret: the mid-engine Corvette.

  1. Something that’s consistently missing from the RPO alphabet soup (LT5, SIDI, VVT, etc.) is “AFM.” This causes me to think the new LT5 may be, substantially, an LT4 with the Cadillac Racing high-rpm (non-AFM) lifters and longer-duration camshaft, which could allow for a 7,000+ rpm power peak and 7,500 rpm redline, and the new, larger (2,650cc) Eaton supercharger. Between the additional rpm and the enhanced supercharger efficiency, 750+ HP isn’t unreasonable to expect – even with similar (to LT4) levels of boost. And when I think “similar levels of boost” with the 2,650, I can easily image knocking on the 1,000 HP door with a pulley, air flow improvements and tuning. Hail to the new King.

  3. Well the C7 per Corvette team members said can put 750 hp to the ground but that is the limit.

That has been why the said the Mid Engine C8 is required. In testing it has been reported they have tested over 1000 hp but said they will only use as much as the can put your the ground.

It will be interesting to see where all this goes.

  4. This thing will blow your socks off.

Corvette team vs. Camaro team is the best thing that can be happening inside Chevy. This internal competition will fruit some of the best machines we’ll see in our lifetime.
