The GM Authority Take
The second-generation Acadia continues to post significant gains in overall sales volume, with August being no exception.
The performance places Acadia in eighth place in its general segment in terms of overall sales volume in August. The model was outsold by its primary competitors, the Jeep Grand Cherokee (up 28 percent to 23,572 units), Toyota Highlander (up 26 percent to 18,845 units), Hyundai Santa-Fe (down 24.4 percent to 11,474 units), Ford Edge (down 3.27 percent to 10,838 units) and Honda Pilot (up 3.23 percent to 9,568 units). Even so, the Acadia outsold other strong segment contenders, including the Nissan Murano and Pathfinder combined, as well as both Dodge crossovers – the Journey and Durango individually.
What’s more, the Acadia also posted the highest percentage increase in sales of 55.66 percent. The second-highest was also a GM product and Acadia’s C1 platform mate (albeit on the longer variant of the architecture) – the Chevrolet Traverse.
We attribute the Acadia’s stellar August sales performance, which was driven by gains at the retail level, primarily to the following three factors:
- A competitive model that represents an attractive overall package
- Healthy incentives to move existing inventory units
- A continuous change in consumers’ vehicle buying dynamics as car buyers continue to switching to crossover utility vehicles (CUVs) and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) from other vehicle types like sedans

About GMC Acadia
The GMC Acadia is a mid-size crossover utility vehicle (CUV). It is the largest GMC crossover currently offered, slotting above the compact GMC Terrain.
The current model was introduced for the 2017 model year and represents the second generation of the Acadia nameplate. It rides on the GM C1 platform shared with the Cadillac XT5. It is expected that the upcoming, future Chevrolet Blazer will ride on the same platform. Meanwhile, the second-generation Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave use a longer-wheelbase variant of the same architecture.
Compared to its first-generation predecessor, the second-gen Acadia is an all-new vehicle that is one size segment smaller, while also being sleeker, more modern, more tech-laden and much lighter. Despite its smaller size, the second-gen Acadia manages to retain three rows of seating and generous cargo space.
The GMC Acadia is built exclusively at the GM Spring Hill factory in Tennessee operated by GM USA.

Comments
I like the comparisons being made with the competition – puts GM sales in meaningful perspective.
The Acadia is a great vehicle. My one hope is that they heed the comments by MT, C&D, etc. about the interior. This is a strong selling point and GM should be class leading with all vehicles. You spend tens of thousands of dollars, you want a premium interior in a GMC (or any other GM vehicle for that matter).
Would have been better to offer the 9-seed auto as in the 2018 Traverse and Terrain
And LED headlights on the Denali Version as well.
