The GM Authority Take
The Volt’s notable 30 percent drop in U.S. and Canadian sales is likely the result of cannibalization of the Volt by the brand’s other electrified vehicle — the Bolt EV. To wit – the Bolt accounted for 2,107 U.S. deliveries during August, the first month that it went on sale nationally across the U.S. Despite the Volt and Bolt EV taking substantially different approaches to electrified transportation, it would seem that consumers prefer the pure battery electric vehicle approach of the Bolt. Or perhaps they understand the Bolt more than the Volt.

Comments
People simply recognize that Chevrolet’s Bolt is a superior product and is a true green vehicle since it generates no carbon emissions (except for that which was used to generate the electricity at the power plant); but Chevrolet can upgrade the Volt by replacing the gas motor with a fuel cell as it would allow the Volt to continue it’s design mission and be green at the same time.
Right
This lagging sales is for the same reason sales have always been sluggish; lack of advertising and promotion. For people like myself who live in a small town/rural area, there is questionable viability for limited range “all electric”, Unless the person also has a secondary vehicle with a conventional combustion engine.
For we who need the ability to travel unlimited distances at times the VOLT. with it’s on board generator (Range Extender) is the better choice! If I want to take my vacation to Florida without stopping, or even to visit family in Los Angeles, my VOLT will keep going as long as I hold out. Try that with any vehicle limited by battery life.
