Chevrolet Previews Special Silverado Heading To Texas State Fair With New Bowtie Design

Chevrolet has a special treat it plans to introduce at the Texas State Fair next week, and the brand has provided a preview of what’s to come.

With not many other details, Chevrolet has issued a single image of a heritage-inspired Chevy bowtie badge that will likely adorn a special edition Silverado. For those unaware, next week kicks of Chevrolet’s centennial celebration of Chevy trucks, with things coming to a crescendo in 2018.

Chevrolet simply says the heritage-inspired bowtie was designed with a “special application in mind,” which means we’re likely to see one or more Silverados next week to mark 100 years of Chevy pickup trucks. Outside of that, there’s no denying the badge looks properly burly and strikes a note between past and present.

The brand has ushered in many special edition Silverados in recent memory, but celebrating 100 years of Chevrolet trucks calls may call for something a bit more substantial. We’ll bring you the latest from Texas next week as the brand kicks off celebrations.

  1. Unless it’s the next gen Silverado?

    1. It would be stupid to introduce the 2019 next gen this early when 2018’s are just starting to arrive on lots. They would lose the “newness” by the time they roll out next spring plus they need to be selling 2018’s. I can see this being a “special edition 2018” as the last year of this generation (like the first half of 1999 special edition which were the old body 1998 style, the first half of 2007 special edition which was a 2006 body style).

      1. Chevy has a history of making grill and bumper changes on the last model year of a vehicle to sort of ease the transition to the new model, they did that with the last gen of Silverado (grill), Equinox (grill, headlights, front bumper, tail lights), and Cruze (grill/bumper/headlights) – the Centennial Model may preview some design theme of the new model. It’s like they’re afraid that people won’t like change, so they have to do it gradually. To me, it seems like a lot of expense for only one year of production, especially since none of the ones I listed had any changes at all since introduction.

  3. Hope it is a regular cab short box 2wd, like the original truck was. Throw in a manual trans, too.

  5. Next gen trucks have door mounted mirrors, like the old ones.

    1. Show me a generation of Silverado or C/K that doesn’t have door mounted side mirrors? I know what you mean, the mirrors are mounted lower on the next gen. But they’ve always been door mounted. Not like fender mounted mirrors like on classic JDMs

      1. Don’t argue semantics for the sake of trying to be “right”. They haven’t been mounted to the door panels since the 80s, like other trucks they are mounted to the corner plastic impeding visibility.
The new side mirrors mounting point is a nod to the past trucks.

        1. Haha I wasn’t arguing semantics. A door mounted mirror is a door mounted mirror.

  7. I am an inventory manager for a large Chevrolet store. The Silverado in question is the centennial edition Silverado. It is an LTZ crew cab. I have already ordered one and I can’t wait until I get to see it in person.

  12. I like the logo far better than the current gold bow tie. We had a 1974 Malibu, back then the bow tie was silver and less toy-bling in appearance.
Pickup design has changed little in the last 40years. Hyundai has that sleek concept but GM will stay conservative and continue to lose market share.

  13. The logo is tied to the new marketing Chevy is using. The do a page with like a 67-72 body style ad that is drawn like they used to be and then they do a page ad similar in style with the new product even with the Colorado.

The new Motor Trend has the new advertising.

The ad also used the new emblem.

    1. I looked it up and it was a late fifties truck in the first page of the ad. Sorry I just glanced at it but it is kind of cool.

    2. I went looking at the new MotorTrend I got just recently, the Oct. ’17 issue, and the only Chevy ad in it is a 2 pg. towing ad and no retro badge or old truck anywhere in it on pgs. 66 and 67. So now again where are you seeing this ’cause at this point I call ya on BS.

      1. BS?

All you needed to do is just asked for the month and pages.

Look at the new issue November, page 47 and 49. It is printed on paper with blue, yellow, red and black ink. Purchased at Books a Million on Saturday.

You are welcome and I accept your apology.

  15. I flat out Love this logo! The original was black and silver and or white and looked just like that. I wish it would have stayed that way myself… There was actually a historical dig on Chevrolet trucks years ago and it was found that Chevrolet actually built trucks from the beginning. Firetrucks and ambulances if I recall as well as a smaller number of standard trucks. Some were still around from the 1911-1914 time frame. So while 1918 may have been a date to name for more mass production models, it’s not entirely historically accurate.

I also have noticed an increase in ads with the 67-72 models tied into them as others have mentioned. It’s good to see Chevrolet digging into their history for trucks. That’s where all the great stuff was… Hopefully they can bring back some elements of that history and incorporate it into the next generation.
