About Chevrolet Bolt EV

The Bolt EV is the first mass-produced, all-electric vehicle from GM’s Chevrolet brand. The small EV went on sale in December 2016 in two launch states — California and Oregon, while production of the vehicle was being ramped up at the GM Orion Assembly factory in Michigan. In August, the vehicle became available nationwide, which is a full month ahead of schedule.

  2. The 2,107 units sold for August 2017 means the Chevrolet Bolt is topping that of the Chevrolet Volt (1,445 for Aug 2017); this suggest that people understand the mission of the Bolt unlike the Volt as it might be time for General Motors to develop more electric vehicles for the entire spectrum meaning electric trucks and CUVs.

  3. The baffling thing about this to me is that the general public generally doesn’t really see Chevrolet as a leader in electric cars. (We all know they are, but we are all car people) The EV wave is coming along a lot faster than I would have ever thought, and GM is right there in the front, which is good news for the future.

Tesla gets all the attention (and the S is definitely nice) but as of August 2017 between the S and X they had sold 26,940 cars this year, total. Musk claims that they will be able to build 20,000 Model 3’s per month, but I really wonder how they will take such a leap forward from a manufacturing standpoint. As this segment keeps growing, I think GM is well positioned with the engineering and technology, supply chain, manufacturing, and deep pockets to continue research in order to stay as a leader in this segment.

This is because Chevy isn’t considered a leader in general. And so this is a basic branding problem. What’s funny is the Opel ‘lightning bolt’ would have been perfect — but they sold it.
