Cadillac XT4 Spied Again Donning PHEV Attributes

New spy photos once again show Cadillac’s first all-new product in years testing ahead of its debut next year. And, also again, we see it features a port for a plug, indicating this is a plug-in hybrid variant.

Cadillac has previously stated the Cadillac XT4 will arrive with a new series of powerful and efficient engines, and a plug-in hybrid is clearly part of the portfolio. It’s expected the crossover will ride on General Motors’ E2 platform, which supports a range of four-cylinder engines and various hybrid tech.

As for the photos, it once again seems the crossover will take design inspiration from the Escala concept. Cadillac’s chief, Johan de Nysschen, most recently said the car will be “curvaceous” and “sculpted” and ditch some of the more angular design traits found with current Cadillacs. The camouflage may be distorting the view, but it still looks like Cadillac may employ Escalade-like taillights at the rear.

The Cadillac XT4 will kick off the brand’s onslaught of new product coming in the next two years. Following the XT4 crossover, a new Cadillac vehicle will launch every six months.

  1. I for one am really looking forward to seeing this car. The technology is right, Lets hope that the rest of it is as good. It is about time for Cadillac to have another hit on their hands.
The CT6 actually is FAR BETTER than any of its advanced press reviews.
That is a car I would love to own.
I hope this car is up to the task.

    3. I concur! None of us have no doubt the XT4 is gonna be a sales hit: the XT5 and Escalade are continuing to carry the Cadillac brand! Because this is, after all, a CUV/SUV market now! I just hope they make it as competitive as possible with the best in the segment! GM’s current crop of E2-based SUVs are quite good at the moment! The XT4 HAS to be 20x better!!! Delivering superior handling, comfort and technology!!! Nothing less will suffice!

    4. Honestly, I’m concerned that the XT4 might not be as competitive as Cadillac’s sedans.

Between a drivetrain that is more limited in choices and performance than the European + Korean competition, and a departure from Art and Science style as consumers know it, this is gonna be a nail-biter.

  3. “show Cadillac’s first all-new product in years”

XT5 debuted model year 2017, is that not an all-new product and wasn’t that last year?

And the CT6 debuted model year 2016.

    1. XT5 and CT6 were pre-JDN products he had little control over which were in development way before he joined Cadillac. Only control he has are the future refreshed models of both of those products coming up.

  4. If the upcoming cars will look closely to the Escala concept inside and out, Cadillac will have mega hits on their hands.
I trust they will have proper powertrains.

  5. I hope the Escala’s front headlamps look make it to the XT4 . Withe the new design philosophy it might make the XT5 look old already . This will be JDN’s baby and I hope the public likes what is sees as the Escala was a hit every where it was shown .
Cadillac really needs this car , it may be late to the party but it sure looks as if SUV’ / CUV’s will continue to out sell cars for the forseeable future .
Lets hope this is the turn around for Cadillac to help regain it’s image as a premium auto maker once again .

  6. And the extra 10 Ft of bumper before the front wheels is there because?

    Reply
    1. It’s there because GM reportedly is using the characteristically nose-heavy FWD mid-sized Chevy Malibu platform (E2) for this new “Cadillac”. Looks like they just lopped off the back to make it small. As you noticed, the result is another compromised and oddly-proportioned product wearing the wreathless crest.

      1. Like I said before somebody will find a way to complain about it. It’s not even here yet and it’s started!

  7. There is nothing in the pics you linked to that indicates there is a charging port. Your are reaching.

  9. Bentley has just introduced their Bentayga Diesel which means PHEV is important for some, but Cadillac should and needs to introduce a XT4, XT5 and Escalade Diesel.

  10. So glad to see the Cad Art & Science (that also corrupted the C7 Vette) die an uncelebrated death. Only one or maybe two vehicles subjected to this A&S design philosophy came out decent looking (XLR & ?).
