The GM Authority Take

The Cascada has accounted for 11,394 deliveries since its U.S. launch in January 2016. The purpose of the model from the onset has been to fill “white space” for Buick and to change the image of the brand. As such, the drop experienced in August and in the first eight months of 2017 shouldn’t come as a significant surprise given that 2016 sales figures were boosted by strong sales performance associated with meeting initial demand for the model.

It would seem that the more pertinent question is whether the Cascada, or a vehicle like it, has a long-term future given GM’s sale of its European Opel-Vauxhall unit, which developed the vehicle and is responsible for its production at the GM-Opel Gliwice factory in Poland.

  1. Is there any evidence that the Cascada drew people into dealerships?

    Not to be a bean counter, but it’s hard to make sense of the math;

    two $$uper Bowl commercials, and a Kimmy Schmidt YouTube series later,

    it seems people still know where to go to buy an Encore, an Enclave or an Envision. And pass on the LaCrosse, the Regal and the Verano.

    Hard to tell if Cascada elevated the brand, filled-in any white space, or if expensive celebrity-laden commercials with a brief shelf life were a good idea.

    Sales results indicate indicate otherwise. Team Buick seems like it needs a marketing rethink.

  2. Some cars just don’t have the ‘it’ factor and Buick’s Cascada is missing something that makes people want to buy it; one wonders whether changing the sheetmetal so the Cascada looks like Buick’s Avista concept car and the LTG 250 horsepower 2.0L DOHC-4v 4-cyl turbo with 9-speed transmission be enough to save it.

  3. Looks like that ” white space ” is loosing some of its luster . It wasn’t meant to sell in huge volumn , its a niche car meant to draw traffic to the Buick showroom .
    I don’t see GM spending alot of money on the car , it might get the newer face of Buick but with GM looking to cut some of their cars it may only see a short shelf life .
    What Buick should do is build that Blue Beauty sitting to the right in the picture .

  4. I’ll buy one, oh wait, not available in Canada. Back to looking at Mazdas and Fiats.

  5. Duncan actually had the guts to call the Cascada Buick’s halo car when it was being introduced. It was always the friendly girl next door and never the supermodel that is needed for a halo product. If they can translate the Avista styling onto the Cascada for the next gen, they would have a hit on their hands. To do so, they’d probably need to abandon the platform, move to Alpha.

    That’s not going to happen, as the Avista caused a great level of internal strife within GM from the Chevy teams. Buick Avista would outsell Camaro, or at least steal the spotlight. Can’t have that happen.

  6. How could this possibly surprise anyone…I don’t remember the last time I saw the car advertised on TV or in print.
    Unless you’re a car enthusiast you’re probably not aware that the car exits.
