The GMC Sierra Heavy Duty family — comprised of the Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD — is getting several updates and changes for the 2018 model year that are highly similar to those seen on its smaller Sierra 1500/light duty brother.
On the outside, the 2018 Sierra HD loses three exterior colors while gaining two new ones:
Deleted Colors
- Crimson Red Tintcoat
- Deep Garnet Metallic
- Pepperdust Metallic
New Colors
- Deep Mahogany Metallic
- Red Quartz Tintcoat
As on the Sierra 1500, the biggest changes to the 2018 Sierra HDs are inside — as the Heavy Duty trucks get several features as standard equipment, including:
- Addition of a standard Rear Vision Camera as standard on all models; on the 2017 Sierra HD, the rear view camera was optional on the 1SA/base trim level
- Replacement of the base 4-speaker audio system with a 6-speaker sound system on base/1SA Regular Cab models
- Replacement of the base AM/FM stereo with 4.2-inch diagonal color display with the GMC Infotainment System Radio with 7″ diagonal color touch-screen as standard equipment on 1SA/base models
- This results in the Sierra Convenience Plus Package no longer including the IntelliLink Radio with 7-inch diagonal color touch-screen (IOB)
- Other models get the GMC Infotainment System Radio with 8-inch diagonal color touchscreen (IO5) or the same unit with embedded navigation (IO6)
What’s more, GM’s new Tire Fill Alert technology is added to the Tire Pressure Monitoring system on single rear wheel (SRW) models.
And finally, the All Terrain HD Package gains new content:

- GM Flint Assembly in Flint, Michigan, USA
- GM Fort Wayne Assembly in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
Looks good, for what they all cost, there should be up scale standard features now a days….. Even the guys who by the cheap trucks should get a good radio….
Now lets see if they shake, rattle, and roll… 12 more months for the 2019 models, better be worth the wait….
