2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV Gets A ‘Regular Car Review’

Opinions. Everyone has one, and Regular Car Reviews has dished out its feelings on the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV. For some, it may be utter disagreement. For others, Mr. Regular may make some valid points.

Throughout the video, the review consistently comes back to one weak point: the interior. Now, we understand why the interior is fairly cheap. So much money went into the development of the powertrain that cost cutting has to come from somewhere. The cheaper plastics and flimsy seats are almost expected in a $37,495 car with an EPA-estimated 238-mile range.

Perhaps as electric motors and battery technology becomes less expensive, interior qualities will climb to be on par with cars powered by an internal-combustion engine. We hope.

Otherwise, the review is kind to the performance of the Bolt EV, and as always, the end wraps up the state of electric cars in Regular Car Reviews epiphany fashion. Have a look at the video above.

  1. I don’t mind seat size, but I would have loved to see some of the materials the i3 uses. High end herringbone etc.

  2. He should’ve let the guy who bought the car actually do the review.
At least it would be reasonable and watchable.

  3. While it would take a long time to fully charge an empty battery using only 120v.
Few drive 238 miles everyday. If they did, they wouldn’t hesitate to get the 240v.
Many thousands of people drive an EV everyday and only charge via 120v.
Because 80%+ of people’s daily drive is less than 40 miles.
There is no problem adding 40+ miles every night via 120v.

  4. It’s actually shocking how cavalier I’ve seen GM with seats. A disappointing driver’s seat is a deal breaker for me. I don’t care how cozy the car is otherwise. Even my Buick Encore’s seats could be improved a little.

Everyone made fun of my wife’s car the Nissan Cube. Ever sit in the seats? It’s a memory foam paradise. The backseat bench is better than most couches in IKEA.

  5. Yeah, bad seats are a joke at 40K+ for the Premier. When the 7500 tax credit goes who would buy this car? Don’t get me wrong I am a GM guy and like the car and GMs push for BEVs.

We own a 2015 Sonic LT Turbo and get 33mpg in alot of around town driving. Got it new on a 20% MSRP sale for 16k. (Ignoring trade and GM Card money) An LT with tax credit is like 30k and its not a better “car” than our Sonic. You don’t mind a hard plastic interior when you pay 16k for a brand new Sonic.

  6. Yeah, well he had me until “faggot” near the end. What an a-hole.

    1. So what’s your problem with the word faggot? It’s a perfectly valid word.
Much in the same sense as the word “a-hole” that you used, except not as hateful.

      1. As much as I hate to waste any time on this —

        It’s just like the N-word —

        N-word = really offensive word for Black/African-Americans
F-word = really offensive word for gay people

Don’t just take my word for it — from Miriam-Webster:

        “Definition of faggot
        offensive
—used as an insulting and contemptuous term for a male homosexual”

So you can use the word if you want — a free country. It’s just really offensive. OK, I’m done. Do want you want.

  7. I believe that this guy has some sort of fetish about seats and hatred for plastic (how can one
build a car without using plastic?) . Ot maybe he’s just trying his best to find something wrong with this Car of the Year vehicles (by 60 auto journalists who, apparently, do not share this fellow’s psychological aversion to the material). My advice – pay no attention to any reviewer’s claims about 1) attractiveness of a vehicle – they are not qualified, or even able, to know how the buyers views such a thing as attractiveness. 2) interior quality – for the same reason – many love seats , interior surfaces , etc that can easily be cleaned, for example ,and therefore love plastic. INSPECT the interior yourself – pay no attention to anyone else’s opinion. Specs such as acceleration, fuel economy, price, etc you can (usually, not always) believe. But opinions about handling, ride comfort, etc – examine these things yourself and disregard a reviewer’s opinion.

  8. What an idiot review. This is probably one of the most important and significant vehicles GM has produced on a long time. Everyone keeps trying to compare the Chevy Bolt to other cars. The facts are that there IS no competition for this car. Tesla is developing a sedan, this is a “hot hatch” with Volkswagen Golf GTI acceleration. The only thing the same is that they are both EV’s. Each has its own pluses and minuses. Do yourself a favor and don’t listen to this clown trying to act like he knows what he is talking about. Go test the Bolt for yourself…and when the Model 3 comes out do the same. Either way, they are both excellent choices.

  9. I believe the phrase about the reviewer is “barking dog Stupid”.
