The seventh-generation Corvette brought the sports car to new heights. C7 Corvettes won’t just go in a straight line, they’ll corner and brake just as well as some of the world’s best. Specifically, we’re talking about the bonkers 2017 C7 Corvette Z06, which arrived with a whopping 650 horsepower and an identical amount of torque.
Sport Auto decided to pit the American brute against another incredible performance car: the Mercedes-AMG GT R. And despite using identical tires—the Germans use Corvette tires, which it tried to keep a secret—the results are quite different on the track.
They’re quite similar elsewhere, too. They both use blown V8 engines, both cars have their engines mounted in the front, and both cars’ engines send power to the rear wheels. Though, the AMG GT R is down on power with just 577 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque.
Does the Corvette wipe the floor with the AMG? Or does less power and greater performance elsewhere outgun the Corvette? Watch and see for yourself.

Anyone notice the AMG runs with an automatic???????? Why not the auto on the Vette, Too fast????????
The 8sp auto is not as good on the down shifts. The 10sp will fix that. Can’t deny that the Mercedes GTR is a beast. The Z06 has done a 1:07.3. Same track, but with the 8spd Auto.
Why is it that these comparisons are never done with cars with the same setup . Clearly the vette would have done as well or better with an automatic. Are the foreigners afraid to be shown up?
And the price difference…..clearly the Z is the bargain Hot Rod!
