Hot Wheels were, more often than not, an adult gearhead’s favorite toy. Along the way, many of our favorite childhood toys were likely scratched, beaten and battered. Thankfully, this guy has come to alleviate all pain surrounding Hot Wheels that have seen better days.
YouTuber baremetalHWÂ has uploaded a video of a Hot Wheels restoration, and nonetheless, the Hot Wheel he chose is a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro. As the video shows, the Hot Wheel is pretty beaten up. Its original blue paint lacks luster and is full of scratches and oxidation. The redline wheels are also faded and missing in a few areas.
With a steady hand—and a seriously soothing narrative voice—the man gets to work on the vintage Hot Wheel. He removes the frame from the body from its chassis and dips the battered body in acid to remove any rust and oxidation. It only gets better from there.
A new color is chosen, and not just any hue, but a color that is listed in the “Ultimate Redline Guide” handbook to ensure authenticity. Instead of blue, purple is chosen. The final product is pretty mesmerizing. Just like a real car that has undergone a frame-off restoration, this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheel look as if it was freshly unpackaged and ready for miles of playtime on race tracks and city-street carpets.
