The GM Authority Take

America’s ravenous hunger for crossover utility vehicles continues to take its toll on sales of the Sonic family, comprised of the four-door Sonic sedan and the four-door Sonic hatch. As such, we expect Sonic sales to stabilize and remain at their current levels while Chevy crossover sales — such as those of the Trax, Equinox, and Traverse — continue to grow so long as the crossover craze continues.

  1. I’m sure the CUV’s are the only thing driving the poor Sonic sales. The over-crowded market, the lackluster refresh, the lack of promotion or lease support couldn’t be other significant factors, could it?

    1. Lack of promotion, non-existent marketing, Chevrolet continues it’s demise.

  2. Best hatchback for the price out there!!
Shame that GM cannot capitalize on its own product.
GM surly does not make the same profit on the Sonic as all its Crossovers.
That explains the lack pf advertising on the Sonic

  3. Dropping the base hatchbacks can’t have helped.

Subaru has shown the way with the Impreza/Crosstrek – there’s no reason for a subcompact CUV that’s basically a lifted hatchback not to share its’ full structure with a non-lifted one. That would allow a company to leverage the popularity of small CUVs into an almost-full small car line (only the sedan would go away).
