The GM Authority Take

The Silverado was the second best-selling model in its competitive set in the U.S. in July, behind the Ford F-Series in first place. But while Silverado sales fell 15 percent, Ford F-Series sales gained 5.8 percent to nearly 70,000 units. Ram Pickup truck sales put it third place in sales volume during the month, followed by the Silverado’s twin brother — the GMC Sierra — in fourth and the Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan taking fifth and sixth places, respectively.

We attribute to the Silverado’s continued sales decline to more competitive offerings from the competition, as the GM truck twins are the oldest in their competitive set. What’s more, increased media coverage of the the shaking issues on some Silverado and Sierra models is not likely to be positively impacting sales.

It’s worth noting that sales of vehicles based on GM’s K2 platform like the Silverado and Sierra is often seen as having a direct correlation on GM profitability, which is highly dependent on pickup truck sales in the U.S. market.

  1. Start making trucks with nice interiors like Ford and Ram. Can we say Ram will outsell Chevy/GMC combined this year. GM makes stodgy old guy trucks, no excitement at all. Can’t even get a heated steering wheel in a cloth GM truck…..come on man!
