The GM Authority Take
With six consecutive months of year-over-year sales volume decreases, XTS deliveries are suffering due to the model existing in a segment whose sales volume appears to be declining, either due to shifting consumer buying dynamics that favor CUVs and SUVs over sedans, or due to consumers preferring Cadillac’s other full-size sedan — the CT6, which accounted for 890 and 26 deliveries in the U.S. and Canada, respectively, during the same timeframe, despite carrying very little incentives and a base price that’s roughly $10,000 higher than that of the XTS.
Another factor that could be factoring into the XTS’ continued sales decline is that the current model has aged since its 2013 model year introduction, thereby potentially becoming less competitive when compared to its most direct rival — the Lincoln Continental, which was introduced as an all-new model for the 2017 model year. The upcoming XTS refresh should address this concern. By comparison, the Conti accounted for 958 deliveries in July.

The only thing with the XTS is that GM’s manufacturing does not understand marketing. Keeping the Same look for too long and increasing prices along the way are the reason.
They are not selling Henry Ford’s Model T’s, but at least Henry lowered his prices as profits increased.
The Roger Smith idea, that the American People will buy them anyway, is not a sound practice.
As I mentioned earlier, unless a manufacturer, makes changes to the cars appearance other than the shape of the grill, sales will continue to slide.
Making a Major change every 6-7 years is a mistake.
This has always been called, “Tail wagging the dog.”
I think a major change every six years would be fine as long as they do a refresh half way through that cycle. They also should continuesly upgrade whenever upgrades are available or warrented.
^ Nah, more like no marketing what so ever since it’s inception. They also should of refreshed it for the 17′ model year; basically this is a result of management being incisive on what to do. Either way, and even so, the XTS dominated the past few years, big time – relative speaking with little management support.
Unfortunately, now the numbers shouldn’t surprise anyone at this point however, because Cadillac has chosen the CT6 as it’s poster boy. They’re marketing the hell out of that car.
I’ve already gave my suggestions on a XTS commercial campaign, they should hire me and btfo everyone else.
I still love the XTS and it’s still my favorite
TL : DR, terrible management. Also indecisive*, not incisive
Typical of GM. When they want to kill off something, they make sales stop. The XTS is far easier to get into and out of than the CT6, its trunk is larger, but narrow. They did this with the Fleetwood Broughm. They cannot bring out their new car untill they kill off the XTS.
