The music industry and shifted tremendously over the past couple of decades, but one thing has remained constant: Cadillac is often a reference point for many artists. From early arrangements depicting Cadillac as a gold standard to modern music oozing prestige over the Escalade, Cadillac is no stranger to music.
The brand capitalized on this history for a brief advertisement, which debuted during the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards. While MTV may not be nearly as relevant as it was even 10 years ago, the execution isn’t a complete fumble. The ad seems to be yet another branch out from Cadillac’s “Dare Greatly” motif, which plays on Cadillac’s rich history as an innovator and icon. Cadillac previously showed the “Pioneers” ad spot during the 2017 Oscars, which also looked back on its history and pioneering roots.
Cadillac has previously said 2017 will be a year to flex its marketing and branding muscles ahead of its first all-new vehicle launch under President Johan de Nysschen. That is the Cadillac XT4, which will make its debut sometime in 2018.

If Cadillac wants to be taken seriously, it should steer well clear of the failing MTV awards. Immature and stupid arent something Cadillac should be associated with. Nobody intelligent watching such crap. There is a reason the awards show audience is dropping like a rock. The 80s are long over with…
I agree, Cadillac should not be positioning itself with such “trash”, but IMHO this was one of the best ads in awhile, Caddy must’ve pulled their head out of the sand while making this and the pioneers ad.
