Buick Envision Sales – July 2017 – United States
The Buick Envision accounted for 2,812 deliveries in the United States in July 2017, its fourteenth full month on the market. The results represent a 98 percent increase year-over-year in July, marking the best July sales performance for the crossover in the U.S. market. They do, however, compare to 5,007 U.S. deliveries in June and 4,406 in May — which are markedly higher than the 2,812 units moved in July.
Since launching in the U.S. in May 2016, the premium compact crossover has accounted for a total of 39,625 deliveries, 25,432 of which were incurred in the first seven months of 2017.

The GM Authority Take
We have predicted various times that the Envision has a shot at becoming the best-seller in the front-drive premium compact crossover segment, where it competes very favorably against the likes of the Lexus NX, Lincoln MKC and Acura RDX, topping 5,000 sales per month, which took place in June. In July, however, the Envision’s U.S. sales performance places it in third place in its competitive set by sales volume, behind the Acura RDX and Lexus NX, yet ahead of the Lincoln MKC.
To give some perspective to the Envision’s July sales performance, Buick’s Stuart Fowle tells us that the compact crossover has been averaging roughly 2,900 retail sales per month since the start of 2017, and July was below that, yet not by much. As such, the Envision’s 5,007 deliveries in June and 4,406 deliveries in May were the result of more fleet sales, which fell off in July.
GM Authority fully expects Envision sales to continue growing in the coming months, so long as the market continues to favor crossovers and Buick can continue to keep up with demand for the vehicle at the GM Dong Yue factory operated by GM China.

It’s apparent from the sales volume of the Buick Envision that this is another hit for General Motors and the only question to ask is whether Chevrolet will be getting a variant or if GM would consider developing a 48-volt mild hybrid.
Chevy already has a variant in the 2018 Equinox.
The hybrid question is interesting.
I honestly think at this point they should have offer a hybrid version in addition of the diesel Equinox just to catch more audiences as there are audiences who likes gasoline powered cars as well as audiences for diesel and electrified propulsion

I don’t think 2,800 sales is bad, but I don’t think this is the success they were hoping for.
The larger, more expensive, and very old Enclave sold 4,600 units in the same month.
The Encore sold around 6,400 units.
With those two established models in place, Envision should have squarely split the difference. Somewhere around 5,300 or so.
In my book, it’s definitely underperforming.
My *opinion* on why?
1. I think they’re losing about 1,000 units a month due to exterior styling. This front end and especially the grill remind me of the last gen LaCrosse and the original Encore. They need to update it to match the new Encore/Enclave styling cues.
2. I think they’re losing an additional 1,000 units a month to people that refuse to buy “Made in China”. Take it for what you will, and disagree with those people if you must, but it doesn’t change the situation. Every time Buick posts the Envision to its Facebook feed, I see countless people post that they will never buy it because of it being Made in China.
Handle these two items GM, and you’ll be at 5,000 units per month.
Good comment – you can’t let this model languish in such a hot segment. Keep updating soon with the new Buick Grill, etc. The RDX will be redesigned next year based on the very hot Honda CRV. Sales must be better – and not fleet sales.
As for made in China, it may rankle some but we are in a global economy. Is it better to be made in Mexico? I don’t know, but if there is a significant loss of sales for that reason GM should consider assembling some in the US if these numbers remain strong.
Make the refresh look like this concept to generate some excitement and please not another spin off of the encore/enclave headlamp grill look..

Majority of people out there don’t know it’s made in China so I don’t think that’s costing them a lot of buyers.
The bigger topic is price an Envision prem2 is priced at nearly $46K. That’s a loaded Acada Denali territory and also nearly the price of the Enclave. One can price a Lexus NX F-Sport in the Low 40s, same with the Acura RDX.
I think if you get the NX with no options then yes you can get it in the low 40s. But if you get all the bells and whistles in the NX then it’s actually about the same price
think how much better sales would be if it was assembled in the USA .. once you look at the vi number or the window sticker you know it was built in CHINA ..BAD MOVE
So would you say the same thing for the encore/track as well?
Tom – sales would not be better. Most people who buy this either don’t know or do know and don’t care.
I still find the notion interesting that it’s not OK for a vehicle to be imported from China, but perfectly fine for it to be imported from any other country, including Korea, Australia, Mexico, etc. Heck, Korea is hurting US automakers by selling cars here hand over first, something China doesn’t do… yet no one is talking about that now.
exactly! Unless every person on earth thinks stuff that’s made in China are POS in which that’s not always the case.
Alex,
Some of that stems from the degrees of trade deficits and surpluses. Here’s some data to consider when asking yourself why someone might hate the idea of buying a Chinese vehicle (a country we have a major trade deficit with, and hold unfair trade practices), but OK buying an Australian car (a country we have a trade surplus with, and very open borders and attitudes towards trade), and more or less a neutral position towards a Korean or Canadian vehicle.

As far as the people who think everything China makes is garbage, yes, they are out of touch with reality. The iPhone is the clearest example, but many other electronics have demonstrated their ability. Automobile wise, I have not heard of any major issues with the Volvo XC90, a crossover that can nearly reach $100,000. Made in China.
There are reasons beyond trade factors as well. For some, it’s more about supporting a nation that allows human rights violations, that allows terrible work conditions, that poisons the land and air and sea, that prohibits American owned business to operate freely within their borders unless there is significant Chinese ownership, and that manipulates their currency on the global markets.
Oh I fully understand the reasoning behind the theory of not buying a Chinese product. But what I’m saying is that people do not seem to care… or rather not enough people seem to care.
Also, the XC90 is not made in China. It’s made in Sweden and Malaysia. The one the US gets comes from Torslanda, Sweden.
Thank you. I’m not sure how I crossed my wires about the XC90. Perhaps it’s the articles from a couple years ago that assumed the tooling shipped over would be used for all XC90 builds. I see now that only panned out for the “classic” version (first gen) and not the 2nd gen that we get. Thanks for the clarification.
The naturally aspirated 2.5L DOHC-4v 4-cyl engine doesn’t provide enough power as it makes you wonder whether Buick’s Envision would do better with the 170-hp 1.6L DOHC-4v 4-cyl LH7 turbo-diesel or the 200 hp LWC 1.6L DOHC-4v 4-cyl turbo; then again, the mild-hybrid developed for usage in Cadillac’s XT5 would be a good fit in the Envision as well, the electric motors could provide instant torque at low-speed.
There was an Opel SUV shown somewhere in GMA that I wish could be the update to the Envision. Like others I think this car should have the new Buick grille. I don’t care where the car is made. Are Japanese mad because some Toyota s are made in Kentucky. Perhaps but its been good for their business.
That’s what I think at times
