Power is always a good thing to have on tap, but it’s no use if the vehicle can’t come to a controlled stop. Brembo and General Motors have teamed up to offer a nice upgrade for its light-duty trucks and SUVs.
Brembo brake upgrades are now available for the Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL and the Cadillac Escalade. The six-piston, red brake calipers are front and center, and larger brake pads and vented rotors round out the upgrade.
“During GM testing, the Performance Brake Upgrade system provided a 31 percent reduction in pedal force and 12 percent reduction in pedal travel at max deceleration, providing improved pedal feel,” Dan Sandberg, Brembo North America president and CEO, said.
The brake upgrades packages are available at all Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac dealerships. Even better: when they’re installed at a General Motors dealership, the warranty is unaffected. The kits can also be purchased online at each brand’s accessories store.

Great move by GM
Stopping, when needed is ALWAYS a good thing.I fear this could have a sticker shock ! Would love these pn my 2016 tahoe
Didn’t mention cost.
I’m sure it’s expensive. Sounds like a complete change out upgrade. Pads, calipers and probably rotors. I’m thinking this upgrade would cost thousands
part # 84263234
$2,795 MSRP off Chevy’s website
I will be calling my Chevy Service Advisor, within the hour ?? This is awesome news. I love my 2015 Silverado 4×4 LTZ Crew Cab 1/2 Ton, I waited a long time to purchase a new pickup, and I went all the way to Lone Star in Houston to find exactly what I dreamed of…and it is everything I wanted, with a couple exceptions…
First is the headlights, they just are not what I expect in a $50,000 LTZ Pickup, and I hope that sooner than not, an upgrade will be available thru my Chevy dealer…which sadly I will have to pay extra for…
Second is the braking…which I will correct with this Optional $$ Upgrade…
Third is something that has been brought up before, and cannot be corrected…which is the lack of an A/C – Heat Vent in the rear of the console, for the comfort of rear seat passengers, in a Crew Cab!!
To sum it up, I really love my deep ocean blue Silverado, and I look forward to driving it daily, for many more years…
I also look forward to the addition of the Brembo brake upgrade, and the knowing that my Borla equipped 6.2 V-8 will stop better than my former Mercedes…
So, my sincere thanks to GM for recognizing a problem, and resolving it in the best possible way, with full disclosure…putting the Customers safety first…That is the GM I grew up knowing and respecting..That is Why I have driven GM for 54 years, and that Is Why I drive a Chevy Silverado ??
Look under your front seats there are heat ducts for the rear of the cab, it is an epic fail that there is no A/C vents like i had in my 2002 Silverado so odd they would go backwards
If you use bi level ac comes out of them.
Not as good as vents but they do work.
Leave it to Scott to point out details the complainers refuse to acknowledge of just didn’t know.
That said, only floor vents for rear passengers?!? GM, what the hell!!
Wonderful Finally better brakes
How many Rotors have to warp before they upgrade the rotors ?
And I am a Atech for GM
I on my 2nd pair of front Rotors on my 2015 Terrain Denali AWD V6 and it’s only got 11,000 on it!
GM Ya gotta make this stuff standard equipment
$70,000+ and customers gotta PAY $$$$ for brake upgrades
Smh
If you are a tech you may want yo check hub play as you are suffering rotor thickness variation.
If you just have a little play in the ball bearing hub it will wobble a bit and wear the rotor in an uneven thickness. Many people mistake this for warp.
GM and others have had many TSB’s on the topic.
It is either that or you dos not Ben the pads and ended up with pad material uneven on the rotor creating the pulse.
Warp is generally not an issue and with floating calipers it is compensated for if it should happen.
Also the rotors on a Terrain are very heavy and you are not going to over heat them and warp them. They are similar to the Camaro brakes on the 5th gen.
The Brembo brakes here are targeted for people adding larger wheels and tires as 12% increase is not much but enough with a change to larger wheels and tires.
Vented rotors with holes add nothing to cooling. The are for looks only on larger wheels.
FYI my wife is hell on brakes and she is at 70k miles on the GMC with no ill effects of rotor issues. I did not even Change them with the pads as they were true and in good shape.
Bedding helps.
Good luck with the standard equipment. Pretty much tells me, they knew the factory brakes were not sufficient. I’m getting ready to order a 2018 GMC 2500HD Denali Crew 4×4, tomorrow. I can’t get over the fact of no AC vents in the console or the roof like the suvs. But, I’m not buying a Ford!
Look under the seats as GM often has vents that work on bi level.
My Terrain and Canyon Denali both have them.
As for the Canoyon Brakes they are fine on the 20″ wheels.
Looking like $2795.00 for the kit some GM parts on line have them at discount. They have been out for like a year.
How about a big brake upgrade for the Canyon/Colorado?
Is there someone at GM who can confirm that this upgrade is for 2015+ Tahoes? Chevrolet only lists them as being for 2017+ Tahoes, and their accessories people will only confirm what’s already on their website. I want to go to a dealership and be able to order this upgrade without reservation.
where can i buy just the replacement rotors for this?
Is there any stopping distance improvement with the upgrade or just better pedal feel and wear/longevity advantages? No one seems to mention better stopping performance. Thanks! 2018 Suburban 1500 Premier.
Why aren’t brembro brakes on all 4 wheels every other foreign cars has brembo on all there wheels GM are the only company that doesn’t provide brembo on 4 wheels my RST Tahoe has them on the front and l been emailing GM where l can purchase rear red Brembo and NO response for also 1 year who can l email in reference to this
I just had the GMC Brembo Performance Brake Upgrade Accessory installed on my 2021 GMC 1500 AT4 at the dealer. They blew out my master cylinder during the power bleeding process, installed a new one and can’t get the part to communicate with the truck’s computer now. Going on over two weeks now. Truck was 2 weeks old when I brought it in, 750 miles. Waiting to see what they do about it.
