Off To The Races: Opel Ampera-e Gear Up For Silvretta E-Auto Rally

Opel is taking the 2017 Ampera-e racing. After a third and ninth place finish at the North European E-Mobile Rally, Opel will descend upon the Silvretta E-Auto Rally beginning today in Austria.

The Silvretta Rally will feature a “classic meets future” motif, as classic cars from across Europe arrive to do battle in the 260 kilometer (161 mile) long rally. Of course, the Ampera-e can dispatch this with ease; the electric car is rated at 520 km on the New European Driving Cycle. Realistically, the often-liberal cycle equates to more like 416 km (258 miles).

The rally also offers a chance to show the Ampera-e’s versatility in various sea level and altitude changes; passes will take drivers through the Alpine region in Vorarlberg and Tirol and up to 2,000 meters (6,561 feet) above the ground.

The 2017 Ampera-e is on sale now in Norway, while Germany, the Netherlands and France are on deck to receive the electric car in 2018. By then, Opel will be very much sold to PSA Groupe, however.
