Japan is not a major market for General Motors, but the automaker continues to roll out special editions for the Cadillac brand.
Following a handful of one-off Cadillac CTS and ATS sedans, Japan will receive the 2017 Cadillac XT5 First Edition, which will coincide with the launch of the XT5 crossover in the country.
The XT5 First Edition may be finished in “Crystal White” or “Stellar Black Metallic” and a “Jet Black” interior is standard. Inside, the First Edition receives bronze carbon-fiber accents to denote it special-edition status. Other than the bronze brush strokes, not much else is offered with the special model.
The 2017 Cadillac XT5 will launch in Japan on October 28 of this year and only 20 First Editions will be offered. When it goes on sale, Cadillac will ask ¥7,830,000, or roughly $69,000 USD at current exchange rates.

BRONZU! So who in Japan buys a Cadillac? Companies? Not the Yakuza. They would want gold.
For Japan with the steering wheel in the left as the image shows?
Of course not. Why invest the engineering and assembly expense for right hand steering to make the vehicle more appealing to Japanese consumers?
When is GM going to start building more vehicles here in the States for export . If ” Japan is not a major market for General Motors ” then spend the money for building the XT5 here at one of the facilities where they are laying off people . Since the XT5 sits on the same platform as the GMC Acadia and its two twins from Buick and Chevy it is something that would be feasable .
Probably the biggest reason to build it in Japan is so it can be exported to China at an attractive cost .
GM seems to forget that is was the American taxpayer that bailed them out during the bankruptcy and got them back on their feet . Start building vehicles here for export and help out those laid off people and in turn helps our economy flourish .
Japan sends barges full of cars to our ports of entry to sell to Americans , and American automakers continue to send our jobs over seas and south of the border .
People wonder why the middle class is disappearing and there is such a huge wage gap in this country . Blue collar jobs are going away , and it was these jobs that helped our GDP look a whole lot better than the way our economy is running now at 2% or less .
Very disappointing GM ……………..
Zach,
The Cadillac XT5 is produced solely in Spring Hill, Tennessee alongside the GMC Acadia is and exported to all other markets. It’s not built in Japan, but it will be sold there. In fact, the Spring Hill assembly will soon be building a crossover for Holden as well. I simply wanted to clear that up.
Thanks for reading,

GM has retreated from all major markets in the world except China. Even in their home country, USA, they can barely compete, losing market share monthly. Only in China with the help of joint venture partners can they be competitive. Face it, now that the rest of the world has caught up, GM doesn’t have the talent to build world class cars.
The American taxpayer bailed out the labor union contract and labor union pension system , not the company . It would have went bankrupt and would have been bought out of bankruptcy and you would still have your all the current brands . Once again dishonest media that protects their narative
to all the comments that it is not a bad deal that GM is building car in CHINA .. How secure was your job when all business were downsizing and jobs were going aboard ??? were was CHINA when GM needed a bailout ,,your money helped them stay in business not CHINA’s money…..how fast you all forget
Hahahahahaha.
We can all predict it’s “success”.
A Japanese car buyer can choose:
a) A German luxury CUV with an luxury interior with an excelent smooth engines with a great resale value and the steering wheel on the correct side.
b) A Cadillac with an plastic interior with an crappy harsh engine without any resale value and the steering wheel on the wrong side.
What will they choose, what will they choose………
