The GM Authority Take

With the launch of the all-new, second-generation GMC Terrain under way, the decline in current Terrain sales is expected as production of the first-generation model has been phased out at the GM CAMI factory operated by GM Canada, inventory levels are depleted, and remaining stock is sold out. GM reportedly planned for this scenario and built up inventory of its key models ahead of the product transition, but Terrain are down regardless.

About The GMC Terrain

The all-new Terrain is assembled by GM Mexico at the GM San Luis Potosi factory. The vehicle rides on an all-new architecture — GM’s D2 platform — and features all-new exterior, interior, and powertrain family.

Compared to the outgoing model, the all-new Terrain is more fuel efficient and lighter thanks to its platform and all-new powertrain lineup. It’s also slightly smaller in exterior dimensions while maintaining the interior space of the first-gen model. Hence, we expect that the introduction of the all-new, second-gen model will enable Terrain sales volumes to grow after the vehicle completes its launch process in 2017.
