OnStar has shown no signs of slowing down as it continues to scale its presence across the world. Now, two major names are coming together to help expand OnStar’s reach.
Globetouch and Verizon have announced a collaboration with General Motors’ OnStar to bolster the connectivity and network solutions that empower GM’s service. Specifically, Globetouch will will integrate its open platform GControl with OnStar for more reliable connectivity, and Verizon will bring scale and network expertise to the technological party. It’s a connectivity potluck.
“We are working directly with Verizon Telematics to take the complexity out of carrier and agreement management, enabling Globetouch to focus on building custom solutions that fit the needs of automotive OEMs around the world,” said Riccardo Di Blasio, CEO at Globetouch. “By providing a single point of integration for GM and other automotive OEMs, Globetouch ensures a world-class experience for end customers.”
GM has bet big on OnStar to continue driving innovation—and fat profits. The 4G LTE Wi-Fi service by OnStar was one of the first of its kind, and GM’s early adoption has reaped major rewards for those who like to also be known as the “early adopters.”
By 2020, it’s estimated half of all vehicle manufacturers will employ an analytics system to create a connected car. Globetouch and Verizon look to be on the forefront.

Onstar. My ’13 Silverado supposedly doesn’t have it anymore. The “free” upgrade to 4G from 2G was only a $250/year service plan. It’s not supposed to work anymore, but strangely enough the dealer knows exactly the mileage on the truck before I arrive for my appointment.
OnStar needs all the help they can get.
Have had 15 Gm vehicles since their start up in1999 and cannot think of any pleasing experience with any of their advisors. Gm save the money and remove it from your vehicles
So glad Verizon is going to be in with OnStar, I have been asking and waiting on this for a long time. How long will it take for all of this to take place?
Verizon was the original provider of the Onstar cellular service until about 4 years ago when GM switched to AT&T. Hard to beat Verizon cellular coverage!
