Flash Fire Kills Two Technicians At Chevrolet Dealership

A flash fire at a Jasper, Alabama Chevrolet dealership took the life of 39-year-old Jake Jennings last month, according to a report from Automotive News. What actually ignited the fire remains a mystery.

Employees were cleaning an oil change area with a flammable solvent when “something ignited” and caused the fire described as “a fire bomb” to occur in the pit.

Jennings passed away a day after the fire, but a second worker, Javan Robinson, succumbed to his injuries following the blast. He was 20-years-old.

“Our team on the ground had been in contact with the dealership,” Chevrolet said in an e-mailed statement. “There is a lot we don’t know about this terrible accident. Our hearts go out to all of the families involved.”

  1. Friction. I have seen it with my own eyes a rag catch on fire while cleaning a table with an alcohol solvent. It doesn’t take much. Add fumes to it and you have a bomb.
