Three workers at General Motors’ Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant were injured following an explosion, reports The Detroit Free Press.
The explosion was reportedly caused by a pressure pump and left one worker with minor burns to their face and two others with minor injuries. The three workers were involved in maintenance work.
“The call came in about 10:03 (a.m.) reporting an explosion in the plant,’’ said David Fornell, Deputy Fire Commissioner. “Our first responding units found that there was, what they call a pressure pump, had exploded. It was a relatively minor explosion. One person suffered minor burns to the face and was transported to Detroit Receiving. The incident was downgraded almost immediately. So there was no fire.’’
GM spokesman Tom Wickman said the injuries incurred by the three employees “are not believed to be life-threatening.” Additionally, production was not affected.
The Detroit-Hamtramck assembly builds the 2017 Buick LaCrosse, 2017 Cadillac CT6, 2017 Chevrolet Impala and the 2017 Chevrolet Volt.
