The GM Authority Take
The rebound in Silverado sales after three months of decline is a welcome sighting, and was probably the result of the some vast incentives offered by Chevrolet, which included a discount for 17 percent off MSRP or over $8,000 on select Silverado 1500 models. Meanwhile, sales of the Silverado’s twin brother — the GMC Sierra — fell 8.3 percent to 15,473 units during the month, which we attribute to the trucks being the oldest in their competitive set. What’s more, increased media coverage of the the shaking issues on some Silverado and Sierra models is not likely to be positively impacting sales.
It’s important to note that sales of vehicles based on GM’s K2 platform like the Silverado and Sierra is often seen as having a direct correlation on GM profitability, which is highly dependent on pickup truck sales in the U.S. market.
Looking at the competition, sales of the Ford F-Series increased 9.8 percent to 77,895 units, while FCA’s Ram Pickup saw sales increase 4.8 percent to 43,073 units in June.
