Buick Envision Recalled Over GM Tablet Accessory

General Motors is recalling certain units of the 2016-2017 Buick Envision compact crossover over an issue that could result in an increased risk of injury in a crash.

The defect: an accessory, the NSV Universal Tablet Holder, may have been installed incorrectly onto the front seat head restraints, preventing the head restraint posts from fully engaging in the seat back. If so, the head restraints would fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 202a, “Head Restraints.”

The hazards: if the head restraint posts are not fully engaging in the seat back, the head restraint may loosen or dislodge, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Affected vehicles:

Number of vehicles affected: 768 vehicles (United States figure).

The fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the head restraints and tablet holders for the correct installation, reinstalling them as necessary, free of charge.

Owners should: customers looking to find out if their vehicle is included in this Buick Envision recall should visit recalls.gm.com. There, owners will be able to enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to see any open recalls as well as customer satisfaction programs. If the vehicle is part of the recall, then owners should take it to a Buick dealer.
