The GM Authority Take

Having made its debut for the 2015 model year, the Suburban remains a solid seller for Chevy. Though year-to-date sales are up and the model recorded record sales results last month, the sales decrease over the previous two months runs counter to the general market trend of growing CUV and SUV sales. A decline in Suburban deliveries could signal a decrease in GM’s profitability, since the Suburban and other vehicles on GM’s K2 platform, are significant profit drivers for the automaker.

Even so, year-to-date sales are up 8.8 percent to a solid 20,619 units — a respectable amount given that the new Suburban starts at $50,000.

  1. I just can’t understand why the 6.2 gas V8 is not offered and why not the 6.6 diesel ,that were option on the Chevy Vans ? Those diesel motors were the 260/280 HP 580 or 590 LB of TQ and the Turbo hd 90 Auto Transmission was used ,because of the lower HP and Torque numbers .

    1. The lack of the 6.2L as an option probably has something to do with the Arlington plant being at capacity as it is… and that adding that engine will likely mean a change at the plant that will not be favorable financially. Here’s to hoping that the next-gen will solve this dilemma.

  2. Chevrolet should do a study to determine whether it’s necessary for them to re-design the next generation Suburban to look like a super-sized Chevy Trax CUV and be more car-like than a truck especially if it is to achieve better aerodynamics.
