The GM Authority Take

The significant sales drops are directly attributed to the Chevy Spark recall and subsequent stop-sale issued in May impacting the vehicle’s passenger-side airbag module.

About The Chevy Spark

2017 Chevy Spark Activ

The Spark is the only vehicle in its segment in the U.S. The current model is the second-generation model introduced for the 2016 model year. The vehicle received several updates and changes for the 2017 model year, one of which was the addition of the Spark Activ equipment group that gives the city car a slightly more rugged, crossover-like appearance along with a somewhat higher ride height. For the 2018 model year, the Spark sees one change.

  1. The electric Chevy Spark was a success as many owners have later upgraded to the Chevy Bolt EV. SO Chevy should offer a new Chevy Spark EV with the Bolt’s power train, which will make the new Spark EV the best “pocket rocket” in the world.

  2. Look at the overall figures and you’ll see the decline started in 2015, after the redesign. The redesign transformed the car from a funky, cool looking, city car with a unique character to a boringly plain, looks like everything else, sub-compact. They listened too much to the automotive press who many described as “ugly” in the extreme instead of paying attention to the customer base who were actually buying the cars, Of all the sub-compacts out there, the Spark, was the only one with any real character.

The Spark also included features that, at the time, were leaving everything else in it’s segment behind.

Chevrolet will inevitably discontinue the Spark becuase of poor sales and they will do so without a clue as to why the 2013-2014 models sold so well in the U.S. market . They had a genuine hit then they dropped the ball with the redesign. They’ll never understand.
