The GM Authority Take

The XT5 continues to reap the benefits of current market trends in which consumers favor crossovers at the expense of sedans. The vehicle’s May sales performance enabled it to take second place in terms of cumulative sales volume in the midsize luxury front-drive crossover space, directly behind the Lexus RX, which accounted for 8,849 deliveries during the same time period.

Sales Numbers - Mid-Size Luxury Front-Drive CUV Sales - May 2017 - United States

MODEL MAY 17 / MAY 16 MAY 17 MAY 16 YTD 17 / YTD 16 YTD 17 YTD 16
RX +0.51% 8,849 8,804 -7.34% 38,329 41,367
XT5 +111.55% 5,752 2,719 +717.30% 24,707 3,023
MDX +2.35% 4,307 4,208 -7.57% 19,315 20,897
MKX -4.01% 2,682 2,794 +3.20% 13,027 12,623

Even so, Cadillac remains absent from the sport-luxury midsize crossover space occupied by market stalwarts like the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class (née ML-Class), Jaguar F-Pace, and Porsche Cayenne.
