The current, third-generation Chevrolet Silverado family has been a solid seller for The General, accounting for 600,544 deliveries in calendar year 2015 and 574,876 deliveries in 2016, both of which are the highest and second-highest sales volume years, respectively, for the nameplate in seven years. And while GM is hard at work on the all-new 2019 Chevy Silverado and the GM T1 platform that will underpin it, the 2018 Silverado 1500 is getting several updates, changes and new features that are similar to those seen on the Silverado HD.
On the outside, the 2018 Chevy Silverado replaces two exterior colors with two new ones:
Deleted Colors
- Siren Red Tintcoat
- Pepperdust Metallic
New Colors
- Cajun Red Tintcoat
- Havana Metallic

The updates to the exterior are rounded out by new Z71 and 4×4 decals on the side of the pickup’s box. The lion’s share of the changes, however, are on the inside.
Most notably, the interior of the 2018 Silverado 1500 gets a whole bunch of new standard features, including:
- A standard 6-speaker audio system across all trim levels, replacing the 4-speaker system that was standard for the 2014-2017 Silverado 1500 models
- A standard Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system with 7-inch diagonal color touch-screen, AM/FM stereo with seek-and-scan and digital clock, as well as Bluetooth streaming audio for music and select phones (RPO code IOB) on the Work Truck models, replacing the AM/FM radio with 4.2-inch display on 2014-2017 Silverado 1500 models
- A standard Rear Vision Camera on all models; on the 2017 Silverado, it was available on the 1WT, 1LS and 1CX trims
- Addition of Tire Fill Alert to the Tire Pressure Monitoring system
In addition, the 110-volt power outlet becomes a free-flow option on the 1LS trim level. It was part of the LS Convenience Package for the 2017 Silverado 1500. That package is deleted for the 2018 model year.
Finally, OnStar and SiriusXM Satellite Radio are now included on the Silverado 1500 Custom Convenience Package, which is only available on the Silverado 1500 Custom (1CX) trim level also includes remote locking tailgate, remote keyless entry, color keyed carpeting with rubberized vinyl floor mats, and rear-window defogger.
And that does it for the changes to the 2018 Silverado 1500. Use the links below for further information on the truck.
The updates and changes described here are specific to the U.S. market and may be different for other markets.
Depending on configuration, the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is assembled in two GM factories in the U.S.:
- GM Flint Assembly in Flint, Michigan, USA
- GM Fort Wayne Assembly in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA

Good things here but maybe there should have been more significant rationalization of build combinations.
Bring Rain forest green back. I do like the newly added colors
A little bit ago, y’all asked what would Silverado owners like to see in the new truck. I want a ton of stuff. What most people were saying is right where I am on the future of the truck. But I would really like is a return to the Silverado SS and the step-side box. That was one mean truck. Chevy knows, so well, how to put muscle into unassuming packages. If you are reading this, Madam President, please make this guy’s dream come true. Thank you.
How about a center console shift, air ride, dual exhaust or a ZL1.
Cool colors don’t make a truck run and handle the way a yesteryears trucks were made as a mechanic for over 40yrs i am so disappointed on these new so call truck its more of a show truck then a real work truck
Wel,well,, yesterday I went in for service on my 16 silverodo lt crew and was told it would be 66.00 please. I asked about two year free maintainance and was told the 16’s don’t get it! Nobody told me at the time of delivery! And no more power train over 60,000! Gee, I wonder why dodge is grabbing big numbers from g.m.? 100,000 power train may be one factor! After yesterday’s surprise I see the corporate pendulum has swung full greed mode! Not only do they get the premium price on the front end now, they decided that the drive traine is maybe not as good! Interesting how other manufacturers softwared are issues by not allowing certain things to happen to protect there interest. Like not being able to spin your wheels when you get stuck! When your plowing in the winter this creates lots of issues. Like having to call for help getting out of a small snow bank!
They all shortened the powertrain warranty to 5/60 I believe. The free 2 year service might still remain on some. They have to pay for all these massive fancy new buildings they have put up in the past 5 years ya know. Eliminating free service and cutting back on warranty is just several ways they are doing this.
The free 2 yr maintenance would be in your paperwork if you have it. But to just assume it is there based on a previous years ad is on you.
As the poster above mentioned, the big 3 dropped their powertrain warranty to 60,000 at the end of 2015 model year to match Ford.
Ram is selling a lot of trucks based on price right now. Am not saying they are a bad choice or bashing the brand. Just their ads are showing $11,500 off of msrp & am hearing more than that from some buyers on forums. FCA has been trying to merge with GM for a reason.
Your 2016 Silverado came with two free oil changes and two free tire rotations. That paperwork had to be signed by you and is also in our national database of how many were done since it was new. The dealer is wrong if you didn’t use your two freebies and should be called out on it. If you need help and a copy of your service history, let me know.
I work from home so I don’t drive every day. To reduce the mileage on my wife’s SUV, we often take my truck when going out of town. I’m 6′-4″ and cant find a comfortable place to rest my left arm. The arm rest is a bit too low and the area by the window is too narrow and hurts my elbow after 30-45 minutes of driving. I’ve found my friends new f150 more comfortable in that respect. I also wish GM would have a seek function on the steering wheel for the radio instead of cycling presets, or make it configurable. It is a long reach with no arm support trying to reach the radio to search for something we want to listen to. I also don’t like the fact that there is no rear air vents even though I have a 2015 ltz with heated and cooled seats. My next truck will be the one that addresses most of these concerns, I hope it is a GM truck as I’ve been loyal GM customer since 1995 and my most recent trucks have been 2007,2011, 2014, 2015 (purchased new in late 2016) Silverados. The rear air and arm rests are going to be the biggest deal breakers for me. I hope these are addressed and available in the same price points as Ford or I’m going to switch. I really like to electric locking diff on the Ford trucks as well, I worry that punching the gas in mud will slam the G80 into locked mode and break with my 35’s.
Wait a minute…. you’re 6’4″ and you have trouble reaching the seek buttons on the radio? Man, I’m a paltry 5’8″ and I have no problem reaching the screen-I can’t see how its a problem for you.
Boy you really killed that straw man, great job! I never said I couldn’t reach it, I said it’s a long reach and no arm support. It takes a long time going through each station and my arm gets tired. Regardless of how many people like it to cycle presets vs seeking from the steering control, GM could satisfy both preferences by having a setting on the radio with a simple software update.
Daniel-I never said you couldn’t reach it, I said ,”You’re having trouble reaching it?” Anyway, do you have the drivers centre information buttons on the right side of your steering wheel? If so, touch the left button to bring up the menu-info, audio, etc. , then toggle to audio, tune to station and then press the up and down arrows on the drivers info centre controls to scroll through the channels. Works like a charm!
And yet still no rear A/C vents on Crew Cab Truck from GM eh?!
Rear vents are useless. I live in Texas and there are no complaints back there. All rear vents are good for is sending luke warm air to your knee. To be effective they need a separate blower at the very minimum if not another condenser/evaporator. The air has to travel down to a hot floor, the air gets heated up and slowed down because of how far it travels and comes out much warmer than what comes out of the front vents which blow much harder and cooler. It is an image, not an impact on cooling the rear.
My wife’s previous 2012 charger worked fine, her 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee works fine too. We’ve never had a problem keeping all occupants comfortable in vehicles we’ve owned that had rear air. I’ve ridden in back seat of Ford and dodge trucks and they blew cold air. My next truck will have rear A/C. I hope it can be another Chevy, but the outlook isn’t promising.
Rear vents in my Volvo XC60 work just fine. Rear vents in my 2002 Silverado worked fine also.
It’s apologists like you that allow manufacturers to cut corners and provide substandard vehicles whilst also jacking prices.
You go ahead and reward GM / others with more money for less content and quality. Many other more objective and discernible buyers will buy elsewhere.
Less content and quality? Your 2002 had far less content, less horsepower, less payload, less tow capacity and got worse fuel economy than the new trucks. Your 2002 may not have had a factory integrated remote start, and it certainly didn’t have rear vision camera, colour touch screen, voice commands, bluetooth, wifi, rear step bumper, easy lift tailgate quad burn headlights, integrated trailer brake controller, 4 wheel disc brakes with Dura Life rotors, etc. etc. etc. As for quality you might want to check the latest JD Power initial quality and long term reliability results. I’m glad you like your 2002, but times have changed a lot since then and the current trucks are anything but substandard.
My post did not say that my 2014 has less content than my 2002! I will agree wholeheartedly with you that the 2014 is much improved in practically all metrics compared to 2002. However I don’t see that cutting out rear A/C on a huge Crew Cab is anything other than cheap cost cutting.
All other Crew Cab Trucks have rear A/C…and GM can easily provide this even if only as an option.
You never mentioned you had a 2014 at all. You did say, ” Allow manufacturers to cut corners and provide substandard vehicles while jacking up prices”, which is clearly not the case as I mentioned. Other manufacturers may have rear a/c vents but lack some features that GM does offer. All these features cost money.Which features would you be willing to give up to get rear a/c vents without an additional increase in price?
None!…these trucks are already around $50k and provide significant profit margins. Adding rear A/C would not be very expensive for GM at all – the ducting is already part way there, under the seat and blowing on the feet of rear occupants.
Either GM can include rear A/C or risk losing more customers.
My truck is my Company Truck. I’ve owned many trucks over the years though and for my own money today i’d buy the Ford.
I was just surprised that GM would cut out something like rear A/C vents on a huge Crew Cab. I have read though that even GM has agreed this is not up to expected standards and are planning to upgrade on new 2019 / 2020 trucks.
Rear vents are under the front seats
If so they aren’t cutting the mustard. My next truck will be more comfortable for rear passengers, as well as myself.
How exactly does Tire Fill Alert work?
Tyler — here’s the answer to that:
http://gmauthority.com/blog/gm/general-motors-technology/gm-convenience-technology/gm-tire-fill-alert-technology/
Does it have the shake like the last few years has had? This is a question that many of us chevy owners have.
The 0.01-0.02% maybe that had it? It was such a small percentage I am not sure why it is even brought up.
Because when you roll the dice on getting a truck with the shakes, and then get a shaker, a new color, 6 speakers, or MyLink, is definitely meaningless.
Let’s be honest, the stock market is going up. Business is going well in the US, respectfully. Most vehicle companies and especially Ford and Dodge have shown positive Truck sales in the past several months. Interest rates are on the rise. I have been purchasing GM trucks and Cadillacs for the past 30 years. Let’s cut to the chase. Months ago I commented on this blog and mentioned how much it would cost me to purchase a new fully loaded GMC 2500 HD Denali, $80,000.00. This cost has now begun to compete with luxury all wheel drive vehicles such as Range Rover. I did not purchase the new GM that I wanted even though I visited over six dealers as well as researching the web. It’s obvious it wasn’t only me. GM truck sales have fallen several percent over the past several months. My personal take is, build an innovative dependable attractive effective truck at a reasonable price and thats a great start. You wouldn’t have a problem including a warranty to out last a lease or loan for most buyers. This warranty would then again bring back buyers knowing they are protected.. Add onto this a truck that comes back with an increase of at least 25% in fuel economy. Quit yanking the consumers chain with 2% each year increase when you know you have the researchers, engineers and designers to do it. Do this and then you will blow the other manufacturers out of the water. All your previous buyers and new ones will come to you. QUIT PLAYING GAMES WITH THE CONSUMERS! And put a winning product back on the market. We the American Public did bail you out, now give us what we need, want and deserve!
I got a brand new 17 1500 High Country take home for $52,500. Retail was $62,000. Your stupid if you pay the list price, but I understand what your saying. American cars are going way up passing foreign companies.
I’m sick of certain colors only available for the High Country. While I enjoy my Iridescent Pearl Tricoat Paint on my 17, I really wanted Red Hot. Just make it simple for people.
