2018 Cadillac XTS Is The First Cadillac With A USB Type-C Port: Feature Spotlight

Besides bringing improvements in exterior design, ride and handling, the 2018 Cadillac XTS also delivers one interesting new feature: a Type-C USB port.

Those not familiar with USB Type-C should know that the port is the new-generation USB cable standard that succeeds the ubiquitous USB Type-A. It brings two primary benefits over the Type-A standard:

  1. Faster charging (of up to 100W), and
  2. The connector is reversible and symmetric

In the 2018 XTS, the USB Type-C port is located in the center armrest storage bin alongside a traditional Type-A port. Both of these ports are full-function ports, meaning they provide charging and integration with the CUE 3.0 infotainment system.

Introducing the Type-C port will not only make connecting a USB-C cable to the vehicle easier, but it also future-proofs the XTS for years to come as device makers introduce the port to replace the 20-year-old USB Type-A standard across of smartphones, tablets as well as notebook and desktop computers. Meanwhile, the inclusion of the legacy Type-A port satisfies backwards compatibility with existing Type-A cables, without the need for adapters.

It’s worthy to note that the introduction of the USB Type-C port in the full-size sedan makes the 2018 XTS the first Cadilac product to offer such a port. The GM first vehicle to have offered the Type-C port was the 2018 GMC Terrain

Besides the Type-A and Type-C ports in the center armrest bin, the 2018 XTS also features two Type-A USB ports on the rear face of the center console. These ports are not full-function; instead, they are charge-only outlets that replace the 12V outlet in 2013-2017 model year XTS.

The 2018 Cadillac XTS is assembled by GM Canada at the GM Oshawa factory in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada.

      1. The new Equinox is also running on an older version of the infotainment software, which seems weird. It appears that any model using the new flat UI infotainment system (RPO codes IOR, IOS, and IOU) get a USB-C port.

  4. instead of a CT8 I think it should be a more affordable $80k FWD sedan that is as good as the S-Class….that car could take the CT8 position above the XTS and CT6….that should be a perfect match for the American and Chinese market.

  18. To tell you the truth, up until last week I’d never baked with puff pastry before. I usually do as much of my baking as possible from scratch, but the idea of making homemade puff pastry is fairly intimidating – I’ve seen them do it on the Great British Baking Show and someone always makes a giant mess of it. So I figured I might as well give the frozen kind a try, and it worked like a dream.
